All your dogs sound so cute...I can't have any due to asthma/allergies, but I do love dogs. My son and daugher in law have two labs--black and yellow. They are so loving and sweet.

Hi Barb,
We had golden retrievers when I started allergy shots. The allergist never told me to get rid of them (he knows that our doggies are part of our families), but he did tell me not to get another one, once my dogs passed away. I listened to him and didn't get another dog.
I'm actually more sensitized to cats than dogs. My biggest animal allergy is rabbit. Luckily not that many people keep rabbits in their houses!

Joy, I like cats too, but dogs are my favorite. I'm very allergic to cats and my asthma was bad when my daughters cat lived here. I'm more sensitive to her big dog too. I didn't think my allergies to my dogs were bad or noticeable until I spent 3 weeks at home. I won't get rid of them but may not get any more when mine are gone even though I dearly love dogs.

Denise, my allergist told he that he wasn't telling me to get rid of my dogs but my asthma doctor does and he really wants me to. Cats are really bad for me to be around and I am also allergic to rabbits. We had a rabbit and a bird a few years back. Birds are also a problem for me. It really sucks to be allergic to what you love. I love my dogs so much. They are a huge part of my life and my happiness. When I got home from work my little guy danced around the house with me to some music and really made me laugh. He's so funny. Well I am off to try to get a full night of sleep. Denise, I have to agree with you pets are very good at helping us through anything that comes our way. It's great having grand puppies too. I can just picture yours sitting in front of you. My granddog goes crazy when he sees us. Between him and the grandkitty we always have someone to pet at my daughter's house. My little Gizmo is laying on my arm right now as I type. He really missed me since I was gone to work all day and then right to the gym for 65 minutes on the treadmill in the cardio cinema. I hate exercise but love movies so that is one of my favorite places at the gym. It's just like being in a movie theater except with rows of exercise machines instead of seats. I've exercised 5 days straight now. I have to go see the courage program nurse on Feb. 1st and want to get some more weight off before then. This week I lost 3.6 pounds so I am motivated. How much do you want to lose?

Joy, how are you doing with your weight loss goal? What are your kitty's names. My daughters kitty is named Sophie. She's so sweet. I fell in love with her when she lived with us in 2008. I know Bill has a big orange kitty named Gizmo.

Bill, what have you been up too. I hope your not having problems with rock fights again in your kidneys. We miss you around here. Barb

Hi Y'all-
Barb- I didn't have a headache after I had my sinus surgery. My nose was sore for about 5 days because they fixed my deviated septum also. Hope that hand stops giving you fits soon!

Joy- I think you are right about the calicos... either way seems everyone I have met had an attitude of some sort!

Well the appointment with the Neurosurgeon went fairly well. He doesn't think the disk in my neck is causing my troubles, but isn't sure what exactly is either. I have to go do an EMG test for my upper and lower body. Sounds like fun. I had this once for my elbow. He said I definitely have a lot of muscle weakness in my legs and hands and hopes this will show something.We'll see.
It's been freezing rain, mist, or fog here for almost 3 days now. Getting really tired of slipping and sliding.

Denise- what's the latest on the townhouse?

Kitt- How's things going with the hubby? Tell him I am praying for him and hope all goes as smoothly as possible. My kidney stone seem like nothing now compared to what he is going trough.

That's funny about the cat. Glad it worked out in the end. My kidney has been pretty good since they got the last of the stone out of there. I go to Iowa Cit on Feb. 4th to see a pain management doctor there about the rib pain. The doctor at Loyola just wasn't doing much for it. If I get this new job I am not sure how I am going to work out going to the appointments I have the next couple weeks. I have to go Wed. and Thurs. to get an EMG done. And then Feb. 4th I go to Iowa City and then back to the neurosurgeon on the 9th for the EMG result. Guess we'll see how understanding they are. That was the one nice thing about 3rd shifty, it didn;t effect my appointments.
They temps have gone up here the last 24 hours and starting to melt the snow and ice again. It is supposed to just rain here Saturday.

Hello Bill,


I am good and my hubby is hanging in there. His surgery date is 2/18. He will be having a bowel resection for his stricture. Tomorrow he goes for a SBF (Small Bowel Follow-through xray) so NPO after Midnight. Then he has lab tests coming up plus a preop physical and all that good stuff that goes with surgery which you know so well.



This is his 4th surgery for Crohn's and he is trying really hard to not think about it. He is on a soft diet now and drinking plenty of Ensure Plus which we bought by the case. He is still trying to get as much exercise as possible and goes over to our daughters in the mornings. He does take a nap every afternoon.



This is not something my "big bad biker hubby" is to crazy about............being down and out.



I have been reading here but with trying to do more for Toby, like keep the wood burner going etc, so I have not posted as much.



Bill sorry to hear you had a 4 day run with a headache.

Barb, you know my favorite pet is of course my dog, King. We also have two cats. I am glad you are sounding better. I have been working on the treadmill so I am in good shape to run back and forth to the hospital and to take care of all the chores at home.

I like Denise's suggestion to try Carafate as it may be an older drug but I have seen it work very well. We will have to start calling you Cat Woman.............calicos are so cool. One of our cats is a Siamese. He used to be way overweight as he tore a hole in the dogfood bag and ate his way up the scale. Now he has loose skin from losing weight on the Jenny Craig Diet. LOL

Is the school year speeding by for you and are you looking forward to retiring? I have been working 1-2 days per week which is plenty for a retired gal.

Yes, the year is flying by. I will miss the classroom...I love my job. I'm hoping to do something with my education expertise when I retire...tutor, sub, supervise student teachers...I don't know for sure, but something will come up.

With the economy/unemployment the way it is, have you considered looking to see if there is a grant or something for retraining? Do you have someplace nearby where you could get that education? Definitely a good idea.

Hi Anne! Hope all is well. Winter will be winding down in another month. Time flies much too quickly. I'm not in any rush for it to go by! I am not one who wishes my life away. Every day is a good day. TGIT is my saying: "Thank God It's Today!"

Townhouse Update:
We walked through, and things look great. Everything is pretty much done (except for a few things that will have to wait until spring (lawn, additional paint, screens on the porch, etc.) They're cleaning it tomorrow, and we're closing on Friday! Yay! We're moving our things from the storage unit into the townhouse on Saturday morning...we have a moving company doing it. Our storage unit is less than a mile from the townhouse, so it shouldn't take long.
It's exciting!
Take care everyone...I'll get on to post as much as possible during the week. Our lives are pretty hectic about now, though!

I went to school for my nursing degree when I had 4 children, the youngest was 7. I started school the first year in September. I put my Christmas Tree up in July so I would not have to worry about it once I started school. So yes, do look at going back to school. You can do it !
