I already asked this, but didnt get the answer I was looking for.

As for esophagus manometry.

I did have one of these years ago but cant remember at all, due to accident I had after.

Anyways

How long in mintues is the tube in your for? not set-up ect, just the bad part..........

on 1-10 how bad was it?

did it hurt or just uncomfortable?

what can you compare it to?

Is it worse or better than an unsedated endoscopy?

Do you sit up or lay down

How thick is the scope?

Time depends on how you do the swallows. If you have i clean swallow each time they ask it could take about 15 to 20 minutes. If you have issues with double swallowing it could be quite longer.
It doesn't hurt at all, but can be uncomfortable. It is smaller than the diameter of a pen. Nowhere near the size of an EGD scope. It would have to be WAY better than unsedated EGD! You usually have it inserted sitting and may be allowed to recline during the test. I was allowed to lay back while they were testing the swallows. I had to do ten the first 2 times and the third one I had to do ten with saline and ten with a gel. The swallows must be one good swallow. If you swallow again before the original one is done you have to repeat that swallow. I am not sure I can compare it to anything except the wired Ph study, but that is smaller than the manometry tube...Oh you can compare it to an NG tube, but the manometry is smaller than that one and less uncomfortable.

   How was that 24 hour Ph study? I have to get that too? Is it ok, or real bad?

I had a 24 hour ph study it wasn't that bad at all. it was a little uncomfortable have the tube in but I tolerated it well.

The wired PH study is easier than the manometry tube to get down, but since it stays in for the 24 hours it can get annoying. Depending what you eat it can pull quite a bit also. Taking frequent drinks when eating does help though. You are glad to get the dang ting removed the next day that's for sure, but it doesn't hurt. You can get a sore throat from it too. Sometimes I could feel it in my throat if it got kind of dry.

hmm. They are telling me that you have to have a manomrty in order to place the PH tube at the right place?

Yes in order to be done properly they should do the manometry and find the exact location of the LES. They then read the measurement and know where to place the wire for the PH study. IF it is to high or low it will have false readings. I believe it is supposed to be 5 inches above the LES. That's the problem with the Bravo, it is very difficult to get it placed properly because not everyone's LES is exactly in the same place and you can't see it's exact location inside. You have to take pressure reading s to locate it. The manometry tube has markings on it and when they locate the LES by pressure they use that reading on the tube to know where to place the wire for the PH study. I had a Bravo done once and had some very bad readings after my first Nissen. The GI doctor said it had to have failed because my readings were so high. Come to find out it was too close and was reading a false high acid.
