I had a similar feeling earlier this year, it felt like my throat was swelling or there was just a big lump in my throat, and while I could swallow it also didn't quite feel "right" -- like I had to make more of a conscious effort to swallow. The sensation first came on very suddenly about 20 minutes after eating at a Thai restaurant and I was scared it was an allergic reaction, but since it never got worse or affected my breathing I didn't go to the doctor. It then came on and off, fairly randomly as far as I could tell (though I didn't keep a food diary) for a few months. I thought it was just acid irritating my throat, and after eliminating several common GERD trigger foods from my diet, the sensation went away and hasn't been back. Though I now I wonder if maybe I was allergic to one or more of those foods? One of these days I'm going to start re-introducing small amounts of those foods back into my diet to see whether I really need to eliminate them all or not :)
For reference, the foods I'm trying to avoid (or only eat in tiny amounts since it's hard to avoid things like garlic powder!) are: garlic, onions, chocolate, mint, anything acidic (tomatoes, citrus, etc.), spicy foods, caffeine, carbonated drinks, alcohol.
