Anyone know or heard about Medigus

I have to tell you that I had a sucessful Nissen on 1/18/10. I really have no side effects. I am 5 weeks out now. I'm really back to an ALMOST normal diet. The recovery diet was really hard for me, so I can see where someone wouldn't want to do this unless they had a real problem. All in all, I feel like it was a good choice. I know this isn't what you are asking about and I hope someone else can help you with that. Just wanted to let you know the fundo isn't all bad with the right doctor.

I think that everyone is a little different regarding this surgery, but I can tell you about mine. Technically I did have GERD, but no symptoms. I had to have this surgery due to a VERY large paraesophageal hernia.
I had liquids only for 3 weeks and I thought it was awful. Really you aren't hungry for about a week, but by the end I was ready for food. Every doctor seems to have a different time line with regard to the food. It is definately something to prepare yourself for.
I was able to burp fairly quickly after the surgery, so that is not a problem for me. I don't know about vomiting, it hasn't been needed. I ask the dr about it and he said that I could, but he didn't want it to happen for awhile. I can eat tomato based foods. I don't care for chile. I was actually eating tomato soup during the liquid diet. Like I said I did not have symptoms of the GERD before, so I've never had any trouble with tomatoes. I am drinking some carbonated beverages. I am not enjoying them like I did before surgery. I used to drink a lot of them. Now, it does seem that they cause more gas and upset my stomach. It isn't bad at all, but enough that I just don't seem to grab them like I did before.
I would certainly not have surgery if you can find a good alternative, but it is a good choice if you are having a lot of difficulty. I have met several people on this board who have had successful outcomes. Before I came to this board, I was only able to google and find people with bad outcomes. I am inclined to think that people are not going out of their way to write about surgeries that have the planned outcome.
I do feel for you and hope that you have luck in finding something that works.

At first I did have to eat carefully. Small bites and chewing very well. Now I'm eating almost like I used to. I'm two months out of surgery.
I burped the very first day and swallowing wasn't that big of a deal. I did get a little nausea the other day due to my pneumonia (gunk made me ill), but a big dose of phenagren (sp?) stopped it cold.

Thanks for your response. I am guessing that in the future I will have surgery as well. I don't want to take Nexium for the rest of my life, plus I still don't get total relief from gerd taking it. I do watch my diet very closely. My wife gets exasperated with me always worrying about everything I eat.  While we were dating, I was the one with the iron gut that could eat and drink anything.

I am glad that surgery was successful for you. It sounds like you can eat normally again and you have your life back again. I hope that when I have surgery it goes as well for me as it did for you.  Hopefully this surgery lasts  for the rest of your life.

It would be nice if that Medigus endoscope is as successful as laporscopic fundoplication.  Recovery wouldn't be as bad. Sounds like the EsophyX procedure isn't very successful, and this Medigus procedure looks similair.

I am also wondering about physical restrictions after surgery. After complete recovery, is lifting and other strenous activities always restricted?  I like to golf and if I felt better I would play racquetball and jog again. My parents have a farm and I like to help out as much as I can. Working around a farm does require the ability to lift and be active.

Stevenaiomaha Everyone's experience is different. Surgeon's seem to set their "diets" according to individual response and his or her experience. My surgeon explained that they have a tube and inflate the esophagus consistent with the patient's esophagus size and leave it inflated until the wrap is complete to ensure sufficient space. This should allow for burping, belching, and vomiting. I have had 3 open esophageal surgeries and have been able to eat anything after surgery...weeks/a few months. I am approaching my 4th open esophageal surgery in a month or two. I'll post my response and diet when the time comes. I have followed the "rules". I think it is especially important to not overeat, to chew food to liquid, stay on liquids until you know you can tolerate more...go slowly. And...don't lift anything heavy for a month or 6 weeks. It puts a lot of pressure on the juncture and diaphragm at a time it needs to heal.
