So I went to the GP to be referred to a GI like my ENT told me to, and she said she wasn't gonna refer me anywhere without a letter from the ENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

darn, wth am I supposed to do with her? Now I am having to ring the ENT to find out if he will send a letter, not knowing if he will even be available, why couldln't she just refer? She referred me to the ENT after all!! Why does she need a letter! Every single visit with her is a battle. I am sure the stress of having her as my GP is making me worse. I am still on the waiting list at another GP, I need to get off her books quick!

I totally feel your frustration. It is maddening. I've been though similar experiences and I get how angry you are. You're right, though, you need to try to relax and not let it get to you. Be sure to push on the waiting list to get into somebody else. Hopefully you can find someone who takes you more seriously.

Hey there,


Your ENT should foward a copy of his findings to your present Physician out of courtesy if it is requested by your GP or you and you have given him permission to share your medical information.



I would suggest you find a new GP as this one does not seem to have developed a good relationship with you.

Everything about seeing doctors these days means more and more phone calls, paperwork, unreturned phone calls and lack of teamwork. It is just awful because in essence the insurance companies are telling the doctors what they can and cannot prescribe or do. Then with all the extra phone calls and referrals, so much time is wasted.

What is going to happen with Obama's plan? I am afraid to even read about it.

I just visited and interviewed a new primary care provider (I'm moving and need someone). He was EXCELLENT--valuing the importance of communication both between doctor and patient, but also between and among doctors and specialists.

Listening to him assure me that his method of practicing medicine will remain unchanged, regardless of what happens on the health care scene (he made a point of saying that the insurance companies are indeed a real problem) he will practice medicine in the way he does now. No matter what changes swirl around him, his values and ideals will not change.

His response reminded me of my own philosophy and educational choices I make as a second grade teacher. Lots of politics swirl around me--and all kinds of programs and expectations are thrown my way. In all that, I continue to look to my students (and my own knowledge of the curriculum) to guide my instructional practices.

The long and short of it...the doctors themselves will be the ones who will determine how medicine is practiced with or without reform. They will find a way to work around things that are thrown at them (whether by the government or the insurance industry) and make decisions as to how they will go forward. This is not a new thing in medicine as it isn't new to education.

The bottom line is that you need to find a medical professional who has strong ideals, and values his relationship with his patients.
Good luck finding someone who will meet all your needs. There is someone out there.
I never thought I'd find a PCP that could compare to the one I'm leaving. I believe I have.

Fortunately, after many tries, I did find an excellent primary doctor. Recently I was having a particular problem that required me to see an endocrinologist and the best way to see one right away was to go to a local ER and then I was admitted. Otherwise, I would have had to wait 2 mos. to see this specialist, and I was in no position to do that as I was extremely dizzy, weak and disoriented. Everything turned out well for me and I was in the hospital for 4 days. I saw each of these doctors everyday or they sent someone else to cover for them. The teamwork between the doctors and myself was great, except for the exception of not notifying me of each and every result from my blood work/urine testing.

I had to ask my primary for copies of all the reports and it only made me worry more, which is probably why he hesitated to give them to me, but now I know to ask for all copies of my reports to keep for my records.

And the primary always returns my calls, usually at night, but that is fine. If need be, I can always do a walk-in because they offer hours for this very purpose, but it is with the other doctor in the practice. It does work out well if, for instance, I get a sinus infection.

I also see that the office runs very well, also as a team, and they will do anything they can to accommodate me. When I do come into the office, even though I have only been going there for a matter of months, the doctors know who I am, a rarity these days. They take their time to listen to you and are very caring.

So, despite the insurance situation, yes, there are many doctors out there, you just have to search until you find the right one(s) for yourself.
