Thanks again. All's well, according to my GI. He says the wrap's intact, no hernia, just inflammation of stomach and duodenum and a little in esophagus. He had no explanation for the vomiting blood, the mid-sternum pain that comes and goes, the sudden reflux and burping. Go home and take Nexium. Get a cardiac echo.
I respect this guy, but no explanation??? I'm not fine, or I wouldn't have gone through this! My PCP, who happened to be in the hospital said I don't have a heart problem that came on suddenly, and I should still get a barium swallow, even though the GI is adamant.
I did one really good thing - insisted on only Diprivan (brand-name propofol with no sulfite). They were going to only get me loopy, but I insisted that with my horrendous gag I would need a bit more, and I got it. No Versed hangover or after-effects! Yay! Not sleepy at all. I only had a sore throat (no spray needed when they knock you out, and no inability to swallow afterwards), and they didn't dislodge my loose tooth.
I do have one complaint - I couldn't get any pain medication until I was sitting in the recovery chair and got my own tramadol from my purse. I take only two a day (breakfast and lunch) and the first one had worn off 3 hours before I could get mine. The GI insisted he "doesn't give narcotics." So I lay there crying, didn't want to sit up. It takes an hour and a half for tramadol to releive pain when it's gotten bad. Next procedure I will take the med I need pre-op, and they can just sift through the tablet particles. Patients do have a right to not be in pain! It's posted everywhere. (Propofol and Versed are not pain relievers.)
I should probably have not had the coffee (2 cups on an empty stomach) they gave me - bad nausea a couple of hours after I got home - took Zofran (chewed) and a tsp of Paregoric to stop the nausea instantly. (I recommend Paregoric to stop imminent vomiting. It's great for serious coughing too.)
I'll take the Nexium and give up coffee, even though it's my only little food pleasure. I don't feel like eating, but I haven't since the vomiting episode. It could be too much coffee causing gastritis. :(
