Exercise after fundo surgery?

Hi all I am new here. I have had most of the tests, tomorrow the PH one. (Not sure what to expect, except they said they will put me out to implant something.) My question is after the lap. fundo surgery can you exercise? I have other issues like asthma and syringomyelia and should be walking and strengthening my core muscles (not that I'm doing so good at it right now). blush I am also in sales and drive a lot and work on the computer hopefully that wont be a problem after surgery?

Welcome to Healing Well's GERD forum!
Once you have healed completely it shouldn't be an issues to exercise, but that will be about 6 to 8 weeks or more. There aren't any restrictions after everything has healed. The PH test you are having sounds like the Bravo. It's alot easier to tolerate than the wired one.

I was back to work at week two. A desk job will not very hard for you in the recovery. I'm not sure about long distance driving though. You'll be on pain medicines for awhile.

I'm glad I found the question about exercise - I have a gym membership and do alot of upper body lifting due to problems after being hit by a drunk driver 18 months ago - I'm wondering now if this is going to be a problem post surgery? I know I will have to ask the Dr but I'm concerned I will lose all the tone I've gained in my muscles. I've had so much pain after the car accident, and still have alot, I'm scared to slide backwards again. I'm still using a TENS unit some even with the exercise.

Just met with my surgeon this afternoon. They scheduled my surgery for the 16th of this month. Not wasting any time. I'm very nervous now that I have read many of postings. I really hope this helps and not make things worse. I asked my doctor about exercise and he said after the insisions are all healed I can start light and work my way back up. He is concerned that he may have to do my procedure "open", because I had a car accident many years ago and had internal injuries (ruptured bowel and lacerated liver). He is affraid I may have too much scar tissue around my liver to do it lap. I dont want a huge scar and lots of pain.

I hope that he can do a lap. The open does take longer to heal up.
