Bravo ph capsule test

I recently had two test. One was a test to test the strength of eshophogus and LES.

Other was the bravo capsule test. The capsule was placed into my esophogus, which wasnt too bad just a lot of gagging.

However once the capsule was placed in it was very painfull. I had it done one morning and by that afternoon i was in so much pain i could hardly breath. The capsule felt like there were pins and knifes my esophogus. I called the nurse on duty and she stated to go have it xray. I did and it looked like it was in place ok.

the next day it felt better however still painful and still coulnt eat anything. By the third day I started eating some but by then the  test and moniter was over.

Dr. called back today stateing there were no readings of any reflux. Of course i had no feeling of reflux during the test because it hurt too bad to eat. Sort of a wasted test I think and way too painfull.

This capsule is still in my esophgus and is anoying. Anyone had this test before? what did you feel like? any issues haveing the capsule fall off?  how long?  thanks.

I also had a lot of "discomfort" with the capsule. I kept pressing the button on the monitor until I realized it must be the capsule not reflux.
every swallow felt like a burning ball just above my stomach, it didnt matter if it was water or nothing at all. I had the capsule insurted last wednesday, and it is just starting to feel better today. The surgeon said a normal reading is below 14, mine was 47. He scheduled surgery for the 16th. After the "discomfort" of the capsule, I'm really nervous about how I will handle the actual surgery.

In may case it was a complete waste of a test.

The capsule hurt so bad in my esophogus i could not eat for a day and a half. By then the moniter went off and the test was over. Therefore it showed no reflux as I coulnt eat.  It may be helpful on some people but in my case it was a waste.

I think the capsule fell of last night and now my stmach has been hurting, maybe trying to digest this capsule.

AS for as putting the capsule in it wasnt that bad just some gagging.

 

I was 4 months into it when i took the test. and 3 differnt kinds of PPI. I acutally feel better not takeing the PPIs.

I was not put under when they placed the capsule. We may be talking about two differnt test. but the bravo capsule test measures the acid level in your esophagus. a normal  level is 7, acid level in your stomach is around 1. So if the capsule reading gets around 1 or 2 then acid is getting into your esophagus.

I also had a mobility test where the normal level of pressure is 14 for the lower sphincter muscle. I was a 6 on that test.

Hi, I am new. I just underwent the Bravo PH capsule placement yesterday. I too, feel a little discomfort when swallowing. The reason I am having this test is to determine if the Nissen Wrap is the right action for my problem. I have dealt with GERD since I was a small child, but was not diagnosed until I was pregnant with my first child. Been on PPI's ever since then (9 almost 10 years now) For me, I was first diagnosed with Lactose Intolerance as a newborn and could only drink Soy formula otherwise I would regurgitate the milk or any other kind of formula. Then when I was in my 3rd year of college I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and now I have GERD with gastritis. Life has always been a series of ups and downs with me and eating. What is good to eat for one problem is not good for another, so I have had to become a very, picky eater. Every once in awhile I will indulge, but of course, I always suffer too. For the lactose intolerance I have to stick with 1% milk fat. For the IBS and the GERD I have to stay away from high fat, greasy and gas/acid producing foods. Not a lot left to choose from huh? Unless I want to become a rabbit. :)
