Hi Catlady!
I had the Nissen surgery in February 2009, so I know just what you're going through. It's always a bit stressful to make the decision for "elective" surgery, but try to relax and keep positive thoughts in your head. If you're constipated now, it's probably good idea to try to get things moving. I'd be inclined to think a laxative might be the best bet at this point, because prune juice (although much tastier) could get you gassy, and you don't want that. Can you call your surgeon's office and talk to a nurse or PA about
it?
Don't worry about
the surgery. Many have had Nissens after gall bladder surgery, and I have heard only positive results. You can have adhesions after any surgery...there are people who need redos, and that's always an issue, but in the end things turn out just fine.
Be sure to ask your surgeon to provide you with liquid versions of the pain med. For some reason mine was resistant and insisted on giving me tablets. He was sure I could take them. Maybe I could, but I didn't feel comfortable doing it, and liquid (which I had in the hospital) would have been much a much more comforting option. I didn't stay on the pain meds long, and went to liquid Tylenol. (I've heard liquid Motrin is better, but I have a very reactive stomach, and stick to Tylenol.)
I was ready for anything post-surgery, and was pleasantly surprised with the recovery process. Yes, it has its challenging moments, but wasn't nearly as difficult as I'd imagined. Be sure to stay with us, and ask away if you have questions or concerns after surgery. We'll do our best to help, and share our own experiences with you.
Good luck tomorrow! You'll do just fine.
We'll be waiting here for your first post...take it easy and relax. Tomorrow we'll be welcoming you to our Wrapped Club!
Take care,
Denise
