I've been given the GERD -free okay from my GI! yeah yeah   yeah   yeah

He doesn't want to see me again unless something comes up. yeah yeah yeah yeah

I'm so happy to be getting rid of one of my many doctors. turn

I'm now down to my lung doctor, allergist, PF, and eye doctor! :-) :-) :-) :-)

That's great couchtater! How did you get rid of it? How long did it take? And how did your doctor tell it was gone?

Pinch weasel, I had surgery for it back in December last year. He wanted to make sure everything was settled down before he dismissed me.
Since I had not more symptoms I'm considered "cured".

So glad the surgery worked for you. That seems pretty scary. Was it the Nissen fundoplication? What made them and you finally decide surgery was needed? How long were you treated and what tests did you have done before surgery came up? How bad were your symptoms? Sorry about all the questions but i have been going through this for 8 months and am losing hope that i will get "cured". I have gastritis, esophagitis, GERD, hiatal hernia.

Was it the Nissen fundoplication?
I had the 270 degree wrap due to a teritary movement in my swallowing.

What made them and you finally decide surgery was needed?
I was coughing all the time. I had coughed for nearly four years from acid getting into my lungs. My GI wasn't sure if the surgery would help me, but I went to another surgeon who said it would. I was ready for it.

How long were you treated and what tests did you have done before surgery came up?
I've had GERD for nearly ten years, but it didn't become a problem until four years ago. The surgery was discussed first then they started the testing.
I had a Barium Swallow, 2 EGDs, Stomach emptying, Bravo, and manometry.

How bad were your symptoms?
I was coughing all the time from the reflux. I had lung and sinus infections from the acid. I was horse from the acid washes. I kept loosing my voice for days at a time. One time I couldn't speak for two weeks.

That's great news, Joy! So glad to hear it. Now just concentrate on getting that back more comfortable. Hope things are going well for you at school. How's your class? How many kids do you have?

Things are improving with my class. I realized that I had been too lax with their behaviors and I got stricter with them. I've never had this problem in the past, but I've found this group needs a very strict structure. There's 20 of these babies.
I gave them a test on addition and half of them failed so I'm doing a remedation all next week. Those who past the test get to do some fun things with geometry (our next unit).
I've found when I'm stressed my back hurts more. So I'm trying not to stress too much.
