Do you mean the shatzie (sp?) ring was stretched or the LES was stretched?
I don't understand? If your LES is not closing it doesn't need stretching it needs tightening.

If your hernia is that large you really need it repaired. I had my repaired when I had my LES strengthen. Otherwise your just going to keep having issues with it.
I have a shatzie ring, but it's not blocking anything.

do u mind me asking what a shatzie ring is? Retired stick in there. some days are worse than other and i have been going through this for almost nine years and have almost worn out all of my options for help let alone just alittle bit of relief. If you would like more info feel free to contact me.

Lower esophageal ring (also called Schatzki's ring and B-ring) is a rare occurance. Normally, the lower part of the esophagus, near where the esophagus meets the stomach, has an inside diameter of 1.5-2 inches. But with the Schatzki's ring it can get to as small as one-eighth inch. When the inside diameter is less than about three-fourths of an inch, intermittent difficulty with swallowing can result. about 96% of people with lower esophageal ring have no symptoms.

Lower esophageal ring seems to result from infoldings of tissue near the bottom of the esophagus, but the underlying cause is unknown. Although some specialists speculate they are due to a congenital defect, most people do not develop symptoms until they reach their forties or later. Although lower esophageal ring is generally associated with hiatal hernia, and sometimes with heartburn, the cause/effect relationship is unclear.
The Ring does not open and close. It is stiff and blocks the food when eating.
The LES (Lower Esophagal Spinctor) is the doorway into your stomach. It opens to let food in and closes to keep the food and acid inside your stomach. When you have a Hiatial Hernia part of your stomach pokes through into the chest cavitiy causing a weakness of the LES and it leaks.
The more your stomach pokes through the larger your HH is.

It's easily identified with a barium swallow study.

i have had so many swollowing test done and its never been mentioned. So I guess I dont have that. Hm? idk most days im just ready to give up. just trying to find alittle bit of relief so i can eat.

By "stomach scan," what are you referring to? Barium swallow? MRI? Sonogram? Upper GI is often referred to as barium swallow, but often that means a scope.

Frankly, I'd be going to a MAJOR university center for Schatzki ring. It's fairly unusual.

The manometry study is great to know if you suffer from nutcracker esophagus or have motility issues.
Also if your doctor tells you that you need the Nissen surgery make sure they do this test so they will know what degree of wrap to do on you. People with weak swallows need a loose wrap.

I heard of someone posting on here getting botox shots in their esophagus. Was that you?

I have had edos., stretching of the esophagus, botox injections which have been the worse and i feel like they are never going to wear off. I have been on pure liquids for the past three months waiting for this botox to go away. I have tried natural remedies. I tried peppermint oil and that didnt work. I tried magnesia phos. and that helped one time but im not 100% sure if it was that that actually helped me. I have tried probiotics and DGL or licorice root. None of which have helped me. I go the beginning of next month and have what they call a ph bravo test. very scary for someone who cant eat or swollow at all. Im seeing my 5th doctor and still no cure, no help, not even alittle bit of relief. I do NOT recommend botox injections at all. If you do decide to go down that path please do alot of research first. most websites say while you have the botox your still on soft foods and liquids. I just want to be able to eat normal food again.

I'm not sure there is a test for the vagus nerve. Usually the say something is caused by the vegus nerve if they rule everything else out.

They've done emg's to check for conduction, but there's still the question of vagus nerve damage. I don't know how they test that; I've read about a test the R-R Interval Study, but I honestly don't know a thing about it. I know the vagus nerve runs from brain through abdomen and it impacts much of how we work. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of cervical facet blocks, a cervical radio frequency pulse and I guess these can affect that nerve too.
I'm sure that something that has been done, by someone at sometime for some thing has impacted whatever this problem is.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could get the name of a Dr. or location that really specializes in this? I mean really specializes and either knows how to interpret the normal barium swallow, manometry, EGD on and on and on, or knows what test really should be done?

Or am I wrong?
