GERD is awful that's for sure and what's worse is the inability to fix it. I was so hoping that PPIs would be a magic pill but they never worked and made me worse. So here are some natural remedies that help me make it through the day. I hope that they will help some of you too. They are definitely not magic but they helped more than any medication or chalky tablets ever did. Here's the schedule:
Ginger tea or ginger root: 1/2 an hour to 15 min. before I eat, I drink a cup of ginger tea it is supposed to help with digestion.
Digestive Enzymes and probiotics: Make sure it doesn't have HCI in it that burns! I take a digestive enzyme with every meal
Raw Honey: not the kind from the store but from a farmers market or health food store you have to scoop it with a spoon and then just lick it. It coats the throat and has enzymes in it. I have a spoon of honey after every meal.
Aloe: I drink aloe all day any time between meals it is very soothing.
Licorice root tea: I drink this between meals or an hour after I eat. It is also very soothing.
Bedtime arsenal: Of course don't eat 3 hours before bed and then prepare for battle!!! drink 2 oz of aloe juice followed my a cup of slippery elm decoction. Slippery elm is the consistency of snot (gross I know) but it will coat your stomach and throat for hours. In fact it coats so well that you shouldn't take it with pills or with meals because it will interfere with absorption. Slippery elm is also good for nausea. Buy slippery elm bark from a health food store and boil it in water for 10 minutes. Strain and enjoy.
I hope this helps you it really helps me make it through, but I hope for all of us that we can one day be 100% healed and not just make it through.
Licorice tea:
Thanks for these tips!! I'm going to start them right away!
