enzymes/ DGL Licorice etc.

Hi,

I'm Mark from London UK.

I have had reflux for 7 months now, lost 3 and half stone. had blood test and a scope.

They Said nothings wrong.

Been on Omperzole for 6 months, which helped a little but not 100%, as i still had some symptoms, and far tomany side effects.

I was also on Domperidone in the last 4 weeks, which made me very ill.

So i stoped both.. err not good thing to do. I only stoped 4 days ago, not I'm getting some kind of rebound effects, cramps,spasm, stomach muscles hurt with everything i do. you name it.

But i'm also getting this kind of tight cramp ish/ spasm in my throat feeling also, which only started today. I had tightnes before, but this i havn't had before.

what can this be :( is this just the rebound effect, as it's a feeling of like closing up on the throat feeling. bit scary really. it's like i check how it is by swallowing.  

I had to go back on just the Omperzole today, as i cant take this. I will have to ween my self of them, as the side effects are nasty!

Has anyone had this kind of effected?

What i did what to ask, i orderd some  Enzymedica, Digest Gold + Probiotics, and was thinking of ordering some Purtians Pride DGL chewable Licorice extract.

Can I take these 2 together? and also take with with my Omperzole while i'm weening my self of them.

I also started taking some codliver oil, and B complex. this ok to take with the rest also? :)

Hiya,

It only started today since i stoped the tablets.
I had a scope (camara down the throat) just about 4 weeks ago now, and they didn't see anything. i guess they would of said?
How would the doctor tell if this was the case... it feels like a fluffy ball stuck there... it just comes and goes.. if i drink lots of water, it eases off abit.

P.s. just had dinner and it seems fine to swallow! but the old stomach stings after... so going on meds cold turkey must give off to much acid i guess?

Hi,

So how would i know if it's a hiatal hernia? there was a time where i felt 80% better.. but then it just all come back, which makes me think i could get better by trying other things. if the things i want to try dont work, what would you recomend i do next? as the doctors here just seem like they want to feed u pills.
I have tried other pill, but i get very ill on them.
By the way. what's does a barium swallow do? and what would they be looking for.. ?

Are doctors dont do pH tests over here in england. they just tell me you are just producing too much stomach acid!! hence why the acid comes up the food pipe! so they tell me. they never heard of not enough acid either.
I have told them before the tablets help alittle but not 100%. then they just tried me on others, but i had all the side effects. the doctors really dont seem to know much on this subjects over here.
my mum and dad have to much acid, who are on Omperzole and are fine on them. just not me, it helps abit, but after a while dont, and side effects. i feel abit stuck really.
I can swallow ok. just feels tight. I read this can be due to the acid.
So how would i get my own pH test done, and what would this prove to help me?

If say it was just to much acid, what kind of surgery would i need etc?

I much prefer the barium swallow. It's non-invasive and not hard to put up with, where the pH study is either a tube down your nose for a couple of days, or pinning (yes, with a pin) a giant capsule to the inner wall of your esophagus.

With the barium they can actually see if the stomach moves above the diaphragm - through a hiatal hernia. They can also see ulcers, which you probably don't have, since you were scoped. They can also see if there are abnormal movements of the esophagus while swallowing.

Have you tried a different PPI? I only got relief with Nexium.
