Gastritis and Esophagitis, severe inflammation for 2 mths

I need advice...help...The doctor told me today... what else do you want me to do... I have had blood work...a hida scan...ultra sounds. etc etc. Today she put me on carafate and dexilant. I haven't tried the dexilant yet...The carafate seems to make my already mad at me esophagus and stomach even more upset. burning...i just may need to give it time. The anxiety and frustration  of all of this makes me feel worse. I am to switch my nexium to dexilant...i noticed when i started taking the nexium my right side started hurting worse. My hida scan and ultrasounds were before all the meds. I have severe burning where my esophagus meets my stomach... my esophagus burns...stomach pain.. and a sore throat. Please i need advice. I have bought books researched and i am at my wits end.

I started with mild heartburn here and there the end of Oct. I stay basically on a liquid blan mashed up diet. Because I hurt the whole way down...they say my lower esophagus into my stomach are very inflamed. My stomach is inflamed also. I go to a new gi monday...my other gi told me what else do you want me to do for you. You r rejecting more of the meds. Its painful. I wish u the best and some relief soon. How long has this been for you?

I undertand...boy do I ever. I just saw my new GI doc on Monday. He switched all my meds. I was reacting to the carafate and nexium. I did not even touch the Dexilant. He gave me Aciphex to try. So far it seems to help a bit. I do know if I eat or Drink 1 wrong thing, I pay. he is running all kinds of tests. he diagnosed me with bad IBS...that doeant help at all. It seems like I never go with out the scratchy burning...but its more bareable than other days. Its all trial and error with food. I know I have researched online for diet, natural ways,relaxation tips. I know with esophagitis...it has to be blan until u heal. I cant eat onions, garlic,sauce, caffine,soda,juices,spices, red meat,cheese. I have added fresh wild caught fish to my diet...more organic, some fat free protein shakes, grilled chicken done in a little evoo shreaded, mashed potaotes with free range fat free chicken broth,organic greek yogurt on a baked potato, hummus ( but I have to watch),rice milk, almond milk,very well cooked veggies mashes. no broccli or anything gasy,oatmeal, baby food rice cereal,bananas,some well cooked pasta with parsely and mushrooms sauted in a tiny bit of evoo. I even got some soft flat bread, with non fat turkey or make a turkey and shred it.with some greek yogurt or hummus spread on it, bagel thins not toasted with some greek yogurt or low fat hummus. Days that I'm bad i stick to some protein shakes, noodles in chix broth, unsalted salteens with chicken broth. My GI doc is great..I highly recomend a good gi doc. u will have to find whats right for u. My aunt and girl friend had this and they said it takes a long time to heal. My friend said it took her 2 yrs until she could start introducing some of the things she couldnt eat. She still has to watch. I try to more water...only bottled. I know I also want to eat with my family but until I am healed up enough, I know I cant. I keep propped up at night. I know daily life is hard...I hurt. I have little kids so its def hard. I have bought cook books but I cant even touch them until I heal. I recommend researching...trial and error. Keep your stressers down to a minimum. eat small meals more often. And trust me I understand cause I love to eat. My whole world was turned upside down with this. I did a big boo boo today...I ate organic oatmeal...just figured out on the days i am sickest I have eaten that for breakfast. I read the package and it said oat meal and sea salt. I know the pain. Its an every day thing. Today is Bad with a capital B! My Aunt had this yrs ago and can eat but has to watch. Like my gi doc said...this didn't happen over night. My friends doc said its like having a cut on your insides with something always bothering it. My diet is not all organic... But I use honey to flavor things here and there. i find a good acid reflux cook book. Thay talk about ph. I have i think 6 books 2 of them cook books. I have researched natural oils that help along with other things. I am also on some natural supplements...my doc said were ok. I use very little salt...no sugar. I know its hard not to just break down and cry when I am in pain. Its also hard not to let the pain and frustration get the best of me. I know the weight thing. I did not need to loose weight and have lost 18 in 2 and a half months now down to 100 lbs. I know I keep my diet as low fat as possible. Mashed potatoes with chix broth, salmon broiled with a little salt and honey...tilapia...all soft and flakey fish. I know my family has been great and crying over it doesn't help but we all have those days of bad pain and building frustration. Hang in there. I know its hard. I am here when ever u need. I love hearing u look so good...and its like ppl don't think your sick of your make up and hair is done and u r dressed nice. I know its a complement but I just want to scream and say I feel so horrible. Life being so limited to one of lifes great gifts...food.

I am so glad u posted. I know my gerd is worse along with anxiety and feeling week and kinda like I'm not here around certain times of the month if u know what I mean. I hurt every day. All the medicine makes me sick. My esophagus and stomach are so inflamed and my stomach even hurts. I have mucosal lining missing in my esophagus. They r telling me it because of IBS. I think that is what they use when they can't find anything else. I am miserable...I've tried ativan, celexa,protonix,nexium...prilosec, carafate, maalox,pepcid, aciphex. All which burn worse. I have a family so it makes it hard. I hurt all day everyday. I was sleeping all night...well not anymore. I hate the nervous, anxious feeling, yet I'm tired all the time. Go figure. Mornings are my worst. I am also at my wits end. I am hoping we all heal soon. Start journling your symptoms and day. I know I am worse if I get excited, mad, or my adrenalin get pumping. Mornings are my worst...when everything in my body says rise and shine. They are horrible. I can't even decribe the pain. I know we have to get through this. We will stick together. It would be so much easier if it was just one symptom to deal with - a whole constellation of them is a challenge.

The pink lady numbs the esophagus temporarily so it's a method with fewer side effects than some other alternatives

Let me know how the aloe vera juice works. I've heard of it but haven't tried it yet

Also I have had *n endonoscopy in dec 3 10 and another 1 Jan 26, 11 along with a colonoscopy. Horrible. No hiatel hernia. But it is horrible when I bend over. I c a more natural nutritionist... He is trying to help and listens to me. I feel like my esophagus in the lower part of my breast bone contracts or tightens and that's when I get a lot of acid reflux symptoms. I am in pain all the time. I have so much money invested in this disease its not funny. I am willing to try anything so I can heal. I am off all meds. Just doing the natural thing right now. I may have to break down and take protonix and just lay on my couch sick for 2 months. They make me so ill. They even burn when I take them. But what doesn't burn. I do have some days where its hard. My kids are almost 9 yrs apart. So I am running and taking care of a my little dude who is so full of energy. Its hard. My nerves get bad.

I have researched and reasearched. It is so bad during that time of the month because estrogen levels line your digestive tract along with serotin and melotin. My IBS is really bad at that time of the month. My first gi just said it was gerd...nothing else but gerd and nerves. My second gi said acid reflux caused by ibs. I think they just come up with something to tell u. I do not have h-plyori or canidia or celicas disease. I do have female issues. My son is a miracle. I take ulrts flora also but just bought a powder by metagenics. I am going to try. I go c a more natural person tomorrow. Try and do some relaxing breathing techniques...and massage. Our mind and gi tract goes together. Mine stated when I was going through a stressful time along with antibiotics and steroids. I was eating a lot of citris fruit and spicy foods also. I bascially burnt my insides. Stay relaxed when u eat. Research pressure points for your stomach and intestines. Massage them. I have bought book and books. Be sure to drink bottled water 8 to 10 glasses a day. I was told no gum chewing because it is hard on my intestines. I take an organic flax to help with constipation. I do not understand the contractions in in th bottom of my esophagus. It could be my les muscle is weak. I have been eating cook carrots and organic baked swwet pototoes they say vitamin a is a good healer. I may even start taking vitamin e. Idk. I will wait and c. The docs rather give u med after med. Instead of really getting down to the issue. I will take the protonix if I have to. The side effects for me r horrible. They say aloe juice heals, so does dgl licorice and slippery elm. Ginger 2 but I am afraid to try it due to the burning. I wish I knew why my intestines burn also. I think its because they r so sensitive. I even started drizzling organic olive oil on my potatoes. I've cut proteins. They r to hard to digest. I drink almond milk, coconut milk, and rice milk. All at room temp. I was told nothing to hot nothing to cold. I also was told not to mix meat with starches. Fruit alone. Only starches with veggies...or meat with veggies. I am down 28 lbs. - am 96 lbs now. I am willing to share anything helpful. I also if I just need a quick snack get organic baby food. Lol. It is soft ...I cook organic brown rice...add some agave nectar and rice milk or almond milk.(Not cold or to hot) and blend and make a pudding. It is a great stomach buffer and it is high in fiber. Boost also even though it burns. It is lactose free and makes a quick snack on the go. Again room temp. I keep loosing weight because my diet is so low fat and my metabolism is very high. I before this illness could eat anything and not gain weight. This sucks. I am here to talk. Whenever. I hope u have a speedy recovery. Try and keep stressors to a minimum. I know easier said than done when u r in pain 24 -7. If u need to cry or vent do so. 3elax and do some relaxing breaths before bed and find something in your day that was good funny or happy and just say I am thank ful that happened to day.

My GI doc also mentioned it can take up to 2 yrs to recover. I am sure I've had problems for 8 years so if I know I'm getting better I'm ok with that, as long as there is an improvement. Slow is better than nothing.

I agree - no one should have to go through this. It's absolutely horrible. I've ordered a book on meditation; I'm hoping that and some exercise will help.
It's hard not to dwell on the symptoms. I do have to say things have slowly improved since November but it's certainly a slow process. It's interesting that we both had a turn for the worse after antibiotics. I'm convinced that the key to this lies there and repopulating the gut is going to help a great deal with this problem.

You're lucky, in a weird way, to know a couple of people who've been through this problem. I'm glad they've gotten through it!

Just wondered if you are taking a ppi or h2 blocker or just doing natural???

It really depends for me. My stomach hurts in the morning for sure, due to whatever inflammation there is and no food being in the stomach. The last couple of days have been acidy mid-day to evening, not sure what has changed...

There will be an answer eventually! If it were terminal people would be dropping from it and that's not the case
