New to LPR/Gerd so I have many questions.  I have a lot of phelgm and do a lot of spitting up.  It feels like my throat is clogged.  I also have problems with swollowing food.  It seems like I chew and chew but the food just won't go down.  No problem with soup or baked potatoe but forget a piece of meat.  Is this common?  Many thanks for your help.

Hi Sierra,
People with reflux often get constrictions in their esophagus which create problems with swallowing. When that happens, the GI doc can dilate and stretch the esophagus during an endoscopy. I'm a teacher, and my principal had that problem...she had the dilation and did fine afterward.

Everyone who suffers with GERD does not get that problem, but a certain group of people do. Have you been to a GI doctor yet? You might want to discuss the problem with him/her.

I finally got approved for insurance so now I can have the tests and go to the necessary specialists. My first appt is Apr 5th with an ENT. I am on Dexilant which definitely helps; no more heartburn but plenty of phelgm. Thank you so much for responding.

Good luck at the ENT! Let us know how it goes and what he/she says. Hang in there, things will get better.

Thank you. It is so nice to have a conversation with others that understand what one is going through with LPR. My friends and family are very supportive but sometimes I feel like they can't comprehend my frustration or my fears. But today is good. I actually have a voice today which sounds normal; 2nd day in a row. Hopefully the dexilant is starting to work and my good days will outnumber the bad. Enjoy!

I am fortunate that my friend happens to know the doctor so she got me the appointment or I would still be on hold with the receptionist.
