Gallbladder - maybe time to throw the towel in

Well as the title says, maybe time to throw the towel in and give into the pain and have the op....Sat night, again rushed to hospital with severe pain - unsure if this was heartburn or as a result of the gallbladder....after speaking to the doc personally i feel it was the gallbladder re symptoms etc...

Monday night back again to a&e with a stupid amount of pain under my right ribcage, so much I couldnt even take a deep breath.

So now after all this am on very strong pain killers/anti inflam tablets...have to let the gallbladder recover.

One question to those who have had problems with this, roughly how long will the gallbladder be tender for ??

Hi matt, has your dr done any testing on your gallbladder to see if you have stones or a dysfunctional one? They usually do an ultrasound and if they see nothing they do a Hida Scan. I had both but still had gb attack symptoms even though the tests showed nothing. Both of my dr's agreed that the tests aren't 100% accurate so they wanted it out anyway. I just had it out on Monday this week with the nissen fundo and I am still sore but it's tolerable. I can't say how long you'll be sore for because everyone is different at how quickly they heal. I can say that it beats having the attacks and Id do it in a heartbeat over again.

Had an ultrasound last year which showed around 8 stones there, have been given anti inflam tablets now, unfortunately its triggered my ibs off :-(.

Am just hoping my gallbladder settles down asap as these tabs are no good for me and pain killers are not working :-(

Pain relievers won't solve your GB problems, especiallly if you have stones. I would seek another Dr out if they are refusing to remove it. There is no reason to have it if it's causing pain and is full of stones.

To be fair, ill tell the story, it was totally my own fault...since having gerd i watch my diet like a hawk and havent really had any major problems with gerd or my gallbladder even though I know I have stones in it.....Well on sat just gone I ate 4 different types of chocolate (why ill never know-easter time and it being in the house i suppose.) !! but well that night it was either heartburn or my gallbladder giving me stupendous pain, so a&e again with heavy pain killer (morphine) etc...by monday the pain had eased to about 10% but was still there..this pain was under my right rib cage spreading towards the middle of my breastbone....by the late evening I couldnt even breath in due to the pain, very tender to touch etc so ended back up in hospital incase there was a stone stuck..have now been given diclofenac - unfortunately being on the anti-inflammatory drug has triggered my ibs off in a big way.

Ive been referred to have surgery on my gallbladder, but im wondering if I have inflamed the gallbladder a lot after this latest episode

Blood work is usually the first lab test doctors perform on patients suspected of having a gallbladder infection. An elevated white blood cell count is the primary sign of a general infection, and may be accompanied by high levels of liver enzymes, pancreatic enzymes and bilirubin.

Have you had any testing done or just the visits to the ER and referral to a surgeon ?

Hi Kitt,

All my bloods came back fine when i was tested on monday night.....since monday the tenderness pain under my right rib is still there. The anti inflam tablets are hiding some of the pain i think. Am also on cocodomol.
