One more question when all my gerd stuff started I developed a white tongue as well. No it is not thrush since I know the first post will suggest it. I was just wondering if the acid getting all the way up to affect my teeth will also cause this?

It is caused by the acid.

when i first stuck a dental mirror to the back of my throat to see why...how.... my throat felt like a golf ball was stuck in it
i panicked when i saw how dusty "grey- white" my throat appeared...you can guess what conclusion my mind jumped to....
two flexible trans nasal endoscopies later i was still not convinced i wasnt in imminent danger....

Well regardless of cause, you can try a mouthwash to start with. I get white tongue but in my case it's my asthma inhalers. I think you can get coated tongue due to sinus problems too. I've also heard (from a doctor!) that pineapple can help with oral thrush type problems. I would see if it goes using a mouthwash though.

Good info. I have suffered from a white tongue off and on for years and never connected it to my GERD, but that makes sense.

Try it. If not better discuss with doctor or dentist.

See how it is after 3 weeks and if it persists I would follow Joy's suggestion.

Yeah, I have GERD and a white tongue as well. It is mostly a bacterial buildup between the papillae on the tongue and can be easily scraped off. You may not ever be able to completely and permanently get it to go away, but you can minimize the effects of it by drinking plenty of water, preferably alkalyzed water, and cutting back on your acid intake.
