Throat burning constantly, ENT said LPR

I am looking for advice for what to do next. I am a 39 year old male, been having throat pain for about 5 months now. Its a burning sensation behind my tonsils and a bit further down by my larynx.
I went to an ENT about a month ago who did a Fiber-optic laryngoscopy, he said that my larynx was damaged "milt to moderate" and diagnosed me with LPR.
Since then I've been on omeprazole 40mg once a day but have not had much improvement if any. Been watching what I eat and drink, but nothing really seems to help.
I went for my followup 1 week ago today and the ENT repeated laryngoscopy. said there was slight improvement, told me to continue omeprazole and come back in 2 months.
My symptoms simply don't seem to be improving. I don't have any heartburn, its just this constant burning in my upper throat which the ENT insists is due to LPR.
Not sure what to do at this point. Could this be caused by something else?

Hi, I have acid reflux since February and the last 6 weeks I was having throat pain as well. I had an endoscopy on June 6 and the doctor did up my PPI dosage to 40mg per day. Today is the first day that I feel my throat almost back to normal. The last 6 weeks I was trying with DGL, 20 minutes before meals. I also did the honey to sooth my throat. I also went to see the Naturopathic Doctor and she gave me some supplements to try. Hope you find something to help you soon.

You may want to see a Gastroenterologist.

A gastroenterologist has a particular interest in diseases digestive tract. To become proficient in the treatment and management of these conditions, a gastroenterologist must undergo training in both internal medicine and advanced training in problems of the digestive tract.

Sounds like LPR to me. Although Im surprised the doc has you on only one dose of PPIs. Standard treatment is two. Good to see that things seem to be improving though.

The ENT has me on Omeprazole + Bicarb 40mg, and in the beginning had me take prednisone for 5 days which did nothing.

The ENT didn't say exactly where the damage to my larynx was, just said it was "mild to moderate" after doing the laryngoscopy.

He said that I could see a Gastroenterologist if I wanted to for peace of mind, but he didn't feel it was necessary from what he saw.

I'm a bit concerned since the symptoms don't seem to be changing after 2 months on the omeprazole.

LPR is also known as silent reflux. Your symptoms are atypical therefore many doctors have a hard time treating it. A good GI can find the right combination of medicines to help you and check to see if you need the Nissen fundoplication (acid reflux surgery) to find relief.
Many people do well for years on the medicines before needing the surgery. I went six years on medicines before they stopped working for my LPR.

@DeFluxx my symptoms didn't change after 2 months with Omeprazole either, give it a little more time, if you don't see/feel any changes after 3/6 months the treatment obviously failed and you need MII-ph monitoring or just ph monitoring to see what's actually causing your symptoms and what kind of reflux you have. PPIs didn't work me but they might work for you only time will tell.

DeFluxx, I know it's a been a while, but I'm wondering if you ever resolved your throat issues. I have the same thing and can no longer work as it's affected my voice. Hope you're still around. Thanks.

I have been dealing with the same thing for a few months... My ENT says that is is LPR and he is 100% sure of it. My gastrointestinal Dr says that there is a minimal amount of reflux damage in my esophagus and isn't so sure. I do have a hiatal hernia and indigestion quite often.. Anyone have any advice?
