i talked to a surgeon today...

i showed him my tests that say i have weakly acidic reflux and he said surgery wasnt performed in these type of cases, that surgery was for ppl with barretts, so i left his office with no solution, and he basically told me to see a therapist because he thinks it might be anxiety related, i have a swollen throat because of reflux and tests to prove it but that doesnt mean anything to him, im really scared of the damage this will cause in the future since ppi's dont do anything to make it better. I showed him 3 emails from US docs (im from southamerica) that say im a candidate for surgery but he didnt pay any attention to that, he thinks since i dont respond to ppi's that my problem is anxiety related. i also showed him an email i got from a dr who investigates lpr with dr Koufman, she told me that pepsin causes cell damage independent of the ph of the refluxate therefore it can cause symptoms despite ppi therapy but again this didnt mean anything to him

what do you guys think i should do, i've seen 3 surgeons so far, 2 of them didnt think this was reflux, i didnt have the impedance test back then tho, the one i saw today recognized it was reflux but since i dont respond to meds he sent me to a shrink

There are many people who don't respond well to PPI's. Often they post here. I was on 40mg Protonix twice a day, and still had some breakthrough reflux, as well as enough getting into my lungs to create havoc.

You've already had several opinions, but it seems to me that it would be worth one more.

And once again, most doctors are famous for being such "hit me in the face!". I know there are a lot of good doctors but some just see their job as any other but they dont seem or want to realise that they are doing much more than just a job!

Anyways, if you want to have surgery, fight for it but be responsable for it!
