Many patients with gas bloat syndrome report they are unable to belch (burp). This can lead to a build up of gas within the stomach or small intestines. Usually it will only last 2-4 weeks after the surgery has been performed although in some cases symptoms may persist.
If gas bloat syndrome occurs and does not disappear with time, diet may need to be adjusted. In some cases it may be necessary to treat the condition with an endoscopic balloon dilatation.
