1week post nissen update

I am now at the one week mark after my surgery and feel pretty good. After reading many comments on this site I would have to say the recovery has been a little easier than I prepared myself for. This is not to say that people were unrealistic about the recovery. I just tried to mentally prepare myself for a tough few weeks.

Yes, the liquid diet stinks and I have had my moments of gas/bloat feelings but compared to daily reflux it really has not been that bad. Like I said in a previous post, the first two days were the only ones I would describe as unpleasant.

I know I am only one week in and there may be future complications but so far I am very happy with the decision to have this surgery.

It sounds like you're doing great! Don't forget that your wrap is continuing to swell, and will peak at two weeks. Don't be surprised if you have some difficulties swallowing as a result. Once the swelling peaks, it begins to go down, and you'll do better again.

It could just be pain from the surgery. Do you find it's like a tightness in your chest? You're coming up to the worst bit of the diet. Around day 14 the wrap is at its tightest and you're best sticking to nothing but liquids for the next week. Might seem like a small step back but you'll make huge leaps forward after that.

There is some tightness especially in the lower throat. A little burning under the sternum. The odd thing is that it comes and goes and doesn't last more than an hour. Nothing terrible and nothing like heartburn before surgery. I am sticking to the liquids until I go back to the doctor on the 19th. I don't imagine I will eat soup for a while once I get past this stage.

I have had that same pain a few times and thought "oh no" but it passes fairly quickly and it's only happened a handful of times for me and I'm 21 days out from when I had my surgery.
