nissen fundo? stretta system? Bess?

I have seen a few posts on the nissen fundo, but not on some of these other procedures and have a few questions.

Which of these are the newest?
Is the stretta system effective?
How about the Bess bard endoscopic suturing system?

I saw in one thread that the nissen fundo was reversable, is this also true of these other two procedures?
Are there other procedures that are also available?

I have not finished my own research and although I was diagnosed several years ago with acid reflux, my symptoms have changed in the last year and I am having starting over with a new set of doctors to get a current diagnosis.

The stretta and bess seem to be less invasive so, I wonder why more people haven't had this procedure?

I haven't heard of the Stretta or Bess. I've only heard of EsophX TIF and Linx.
EsophyX is basically the doctor going in orally with a special scope. It has a "stapler" on the end which pulls down the fundo and "staples" it to your esophagus, therefore strengthing the LES.
The Linx is brand new and still in trials. They place an expandable magnetic bracelet around your LES. It expands when you swallow and contracts after the food passes.

FYI

The Stretta Procedure is a new Endoscopic Radiofrequency Electrosurgical Device for the Control of Gastrointestinal Esophageal Reflux Disease. The Stretta procedure is an approved technique for acid reflux disease and has been around since 2001. 

BESS = Bard EndoCinch Suturing System.  BESS is a non-invasive procedure which creates “plications,” or pleats, at the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). The BESS technique and standard video endoscopy sutures are placed in the upper part of the stomach at or below the LES. The device is attached to the end of a standard, flexible endoscope and the sutures are placed in two different locations near the LES.

Hope this explains a bit re the 2 procedures.  I am sure another member may have some personal experience with one of the procedures.

I am Marie,

I saw your post - regarding to the reflux procedure.

I did some research while back regarding to Stretta - I find out that it was obsolete.

I also spoke to some GI dr, they say there were some issue so they prefer it over Nissen.

While back I was research for Stretta, and Esophyx. Esophyx was fairly new, and I was not able to locate any dr that do this procedure close by my area. I did locate some dr that do this in New York and Florida. Perhaps by now, things may change....

As Joy stated - EsophyX seem to be the latest prcedure in production - but you have to find a very qualified dr that do a lot of this.  My GI dr recommand me for Nissen because they know that Nissen was around much longer than Esophyx. Since Esophyx is a fairly new procedure, they don't have valuable information for the long term.

is the latest procedure at work - It is in Phase II test right now. There is one person that got it done on here- go by the name Shooz. Seem like Shooz is very happy with the Linx procedure. The recovery time seem to be faster than Nissen. Check out this link.

Hopefully, it will pass the FDA thing soon - I think Linx may be the future procedure for Acid Reflux -

I think many people who have bad reflux may benefit from the Linx procedure.

The idea sound pretty smart -but it still require surgery -just like Nissen - 5 holes -and it is an outpatient thing instead of over night patient -as Nissen.

Linx can be undo if something goes wrong. Nissen - I am not sure -

With Nissen I heard that it can be repair if it come loose...

To the best of my understanding, the endo-cinch has been discontinued. My uncle used to do them and they were discontinued quite a while ago. It was unsuccessful.

I looked into all the procedures at great length and asked my surgeons about them. They don't do newer ones here anymore, although they did a lot of trials, because the success numbers just aren't up to their standards - over 95% range before getting my Toupet (partial Nissen). I didn't want a bunch of hardware in my chest either, especially since I have to have MRIs every few years.

Nissen can be repaired, but not completely undone because the fundus is cut loose and used as a wrap to strengthen the LES. Some of the others are converted to Nissens on a regular basis here.
