Question about left sided throat pain and swollen lymph glands

Hey All,

I am suppose to go in for an endoscopy on july 29th, my last endoscopy which was scheduled a month ago was cancelled because at the time I had no insurance and was waiting to get on another insurance.  Well some things have come up that Im getting worried about. My lymph glands started to swell up about 3 weeks ago and I went to see my pcp and he told me that it was probably viral and not to worry about it.  Well the glands on the left side of my neck are huge and my throat is very soar but not like a typical soar throat more like constant reflux soar.

Which brings me to the second thing my stomach cannot handle anything it seems like. I will eat a bowl of soup and 3-4 hrs later my stomach is burning soo bad and my throat is killing me that I want to take a fire extinguisher and jam it down my throat. The burning is that severe!!! I went to a new dr on tuesday and he said that my glands are enlarged and gave me a rx for zithromax and to take OTC prilosec for the reflux. I took the 2 today and started to feel a little bit better and then ate something. well sure enough a couple of hours later my stomach is killing me and my throat hurts like crazy.

 Even taking the prilosec I am still not getting any relief and have no appetite. With all of the concerns about esophageal cancer Im afraid to wait much longer because I can barely eat anything and Im drinking a ton of water to help my throat but it's not really working.

Also I brush my teeth twice a day and use anti-microbrial mouth rinse and floss and my breath is always bad. I also have a constant bad taste in my mouth that I can't get rid of. I've tried chewing gum and sucking on mints and it never works. I don't know if it is some sort of infection and if the zithromax by its self will take care of it??!!

Just worried.. Im 30 and had an endocscopy about a year ago and a half ago they didn't really find anything. I've also heard that after 1 endoscopy it can do damamge to your esophagus and set you up for more problems down the road. I didn't know if there was any truth to that or not...

You probably have gastritis and possibly lpr. I have both and have the same symptoms. Get the scope because it will let your GI know what's going on. How long have your lymphnodes been swollen, and which ones are they? My swollen lynphnode is on the right side of my neck by the hairline. Doesnt sound like esophageal cancer, especially if you had a scope 18 months ago and it came back clean.

The doctor was probably right about the virus causing the swollen lymphnodes.
Can you take an over the counter PPI or and H2 blocker while you wait the see the doctor?

Well it is just the lymph glands on the left side of my neck and goes onto the left side of my chest. The lymph glands on my chest aren't that bad just slightly swollen. The ones on my neck are huge and painful and go along the back of my neck too. What is Lpr Chuck?? My lymph glands have been swollen for 3 weeks and pretty sure it is some kind of infection. Right now Im taking prilosec Joy and that's it.

LPR (Larangopharangeal Reflux) is when reflux gets up into your throat. Your throat is much more sensitive to reflux than your esophagus, so just a little reflux causes a lot of pain. Its usually diagnosed by an ENT (you might want the ENT to look at your lymphnodes too).

Your lymphnode problem sounds different than mine. I have had one swollen lymphnode that I have had for months. It is small. Sounds like you have some sort of virus. Im not sure how long you have had these symptoms, but its possible the whole thing is related to a virus. But from what you have written it seems like you had a scope scheduled before the lymphnode thing? So im guessing that you suffer from reflux?

I agree with chuck, your symptoms seem like reflux.

Since you are having throat symptoms, i suggest you visit a ENT. They can confirm if its viral or reflux.

i thought mine was a viral. i had a sore throat for a month. I actually had LPR.

You really want to get the correct diagnoses ASAP. I have been sick since feb. The sooner they find out whats making you sick the better.

Ive been recently having alot of pain on the left side of my throat, sort of throbbing and sore. Its been happening more recently. Been having to clear my throat alot, but it doesnt seem 2 help. Ugh! What is happening to me now?

just a FYI,

when you have pain on one side of your throat, that is probably due to acid pooling on that side. Which could happen if sleep on your side and you reflux at night.

throat clearing happens in reflux when mucous pools at the base of the neck.

Just a quick update.. I finished the zithromax and have been experiencing terrible headaches. I believe it's from the z-pack. The lymph glands have gone down a little but still feel swollen. I also started doing a little bit of yoga nothing terribly hard just mostly easy inversion poses to help with IBS/constipation/indegestion/acid reflux symptoms. The reflux seems somewhat under control but not really.

 Last night was tough for me because I felt so horrible and in such terrible pain. Lately i've been getting hard sharp stabbing pains up and down my left leg, left arm and up the side of my left neck. It feels like a very deep pain not muscular really. I was trying to do a little grocery shopping with my daughter and started limping because the back of my leg felt like there wasa softball in it and was swollen. When I got home I had my husband check my leg and he said my left leg was definately tighter feeling than my right. Unfortunately I have experienced this kind of pain before just not so severe. I don't know if it's from the little bit of yoga I was doing or what but the chronic pain, upper gi thing is really wearing me down.

I am currently waiting on a refferal from my new pcp to see an endocrinologist because my adrenal glands are acting up (just found this out the last week or so) then of course I have my scope the end of this month. I have not been able to work/function since April and we are in some really bad financial straits and was thinking about applying for SSDI temporarily just to kind of help me and my family with monthly bills. I didn't know if they would approve me or not since I still have not yet recieved a diagnosis.. Was going to do some research on it today and see what I can find. Any advice would be great.. Ask your doctor for an ANA blood test. You might be having an autoimmune problem.

I was tested for autoimmune. Had my ANA tested 15 times and awlays negative. I really think I do have some sort of autoimmune disorder just a question of finding the dr to diagnose which one it is. It is all very frustrating. Just try to keep plugging along.. feel a little better today but lord only knows what tomorrow will bring.

I have had drs tell me that even if the ANA is negative but your other inflammatory markers are elevated then they will diagnose you with an autoimmune disease. All of my inflammatory markers are normal. Im going back into the dr on friday because the pain radiating up and down my leg and arm and the side of my neck is intollerable. Also my left eye when i look at something out of the corner of my eye everything gets really wavy and blurry. Sort of feels like my eye is bulging out of the socket. I don't know more and more I think maybe this is some vascular issue or an autoimmune disorder that attacking my vascular system or a tumor that hasn't been found yet...the list goes on and on. confused   Would love some answers....

Hi... nsearch... you should look into natural health alternatives for the reflux! I did and it helped! I dealt with it so bad and the meds were not helping me. Then I changed my diet and used some natural herbs and got my gut back in order using probiotics (healthy bacteria). A good place to start would be www.mercola.com and do a search on your different diseases! It is eye-opening. The main problem we have is the SAD diet... the Standard American Diet. Do search on traditional ways of eating and you will find that what we eat now causes diseases.. and the way we used to eat - BEFORE the food industry took over - promoted health! I wish you lots of luck... I just had to register so I could tell you because your problems sound so much like mine and I am thankful I was able to learn the truth about the way we eat. =)
