Ph monitoring with 96 hour BRAVO??

I've had the bravo as well as the myriad of other tests and I can tell you, that from my experience, I don't remember any discomfort..if there was, it had to have been fairly minor.
The Bravo is usually done in conjunction with an EGD..a once and done sort of thing.., but it can be done as its own procedure.
The GI doc will insert the capsule into a designated spot in your esophagus; any activity will be transmitted from the Bravo to some sort of recording device that you will be wearing. At the appropriate time, you will turn in the device and they'll read the information.
What are the risks..highest, in my opinion, is the risk that the Bravo was not attached properly and you don't get the benefit of a full reading. There are those who do report a sensation that something is "there", but everyone is different. In due time, the bravo will disconnect itself from your esophagus and will pass through your system without you even knowing.
The alternative to this would be a ph monitor for that length of time..that one drives me nuts; the wire is out your nose and taped to your face..for me this acts as antagonist and my nose runs constantly and it becomes raw and sore; so the Bravo was much more preferable than the ph monitor.

i just had the bravo done aug 2nd .It was also for 48 hrs.they told me not to take my meds.I also had to keep the journal and was told to eat what i would normally eat.well i went back thurs aug 4th and i failed the test.So i ahd to go to step 2.to me that was horriable.but it had to be done. it was the Esophageal motility test.i have to pass that test to have the surgery done.but you will do fine on the bravo.the worse part of that test is you cant take no meds.i go meet the dr next week to schedule my surgery i am scared to death.

Thanks for all the informative responses everyone.  I will be getting the capsule put in on Wednesday morning.  With regards to the motility study someone mentioned...do you know how often lack of motility is a cause of reflux?  What is that test like? How will they know if they have to do that??

I had the motility study. Not fun at all. After about 2 hours I became violently ill and projectile vomited, the tube came out my mouth and had to go to the ER. After 6 hours they decide to pull it out. Now because the first one did not go right I have to have another one. After reading about the 96-hours study I am sure hoping that is what they will do.
