My GI doctor gave me Dexilant. How long did you take it for it to start working?
I've been on in for a week. I am still feeling sick and unable to eat without getting sick. Thanks.

Hi frus789,

Welcome to Healing Well! It generally takes about two weeks for PPI's to begin doing the job. Also, keep in mind that the irritation that occurred before you started on the meds will take time to heal.

Are you taking the medication about 45 minutes before eating dinner? What dosage are you taking? Are you being careful to avoid GERD trigger foods?

My GI doctor told me to take 60 mg 30 mins before a meal in the morning.
I am scheduled to have a upper endoscopy. The doctors are not sure what is causing my symptoms.
I am trying to eat non trigger foods but I get sick no matter what I eat. I've loss lot of weight.

Hi frus,

Trust me...people here know how frustrating it is. Doctors differ in their recommendation as to when to take the medication. Since lying down is when the reflux is most likely to migrate into the esophagus, my doc recommended it before the nighttime meal. Really, it depends upon when your symptoms are the worst.
