Hi,
I am 19 days pre-op. having a nissen fundoplication on Sept. 9th. Met my surgeon the other day, world renowned laporoscopic surgeon here in Michigan. Anyway, he wants me predominantly on a liquid diet prior to surgery. He gave me meal replacement high protein powder that I mix with milk. In addition, I have to eat 2 low fat 6 oz yogurts, and suger free jello and chicken/beef broth if desired and plenty of water. My family doc warned me about this. I am about 40 lbs. overweight, and so I can stand to lose the 15 lbs. surgeon tells me that I will prob lose prior to surgery, but I guess I should have asked for a better explanation. He said it was going to make the surgery easier for him. I was wondering if anyone else was advised to do this prior to your surgery. I think he wants to shrink my stomach or possibly calm it down.
I have been following this liquid diet for the last 3 days and I must tell you that my stom and esophagus have never felt better. I dont have food particles floating back up to my throat. I still burp alot, but I feel alot better. Dont get me wrong, I certainly don't want to live on liquids the rest of my life, but hopefully surgery will fix that. Just wondering if anyone else was prescribed liquid diet before surgery.
