I posted on here that I had diarrhea ever since going off nexium 2 weeks ago but also started taking dexilant. Have felt horrible for 2 weeks. Bad diarrhea, stomach rumbling, tired, moody and itching all the time. Just looked up side effects of dexilant and diarrhea is common one plus itching is sign of allergic reaction so just wondered if anyone else has taken dexilant and had any of these problems and how long does it take for them to go away after stopping the med

I was on Nexium for years before I ended up with a Nissen wrap 8 weeks ago. Right before the surgery the GI switched me to Dexilant and it worked better than Nexium did but I got so much anxiety I had to stop taking it.

I had no idea that something like a PPI could cause anxiety but it did.

Good luck with it. Sometimes I guess you just have to choose the lesser of two evils.

Dexilant gave me horrible diarrhea after being on it for a couple of weeks. My doctor first thought it was food poisoning so I suffered for 2 weeks! I stopped the dexilant and took an immodium the same day and the diarrhea was gone! Hope you feel better soon!

Dexilant worked great for my LPR, but I have recently developed abdominal pains. Currently on a trial without any PPIs to see if it clears up.

Hey Upbeat,

I also at first thought I had food poisoning because the diarrhea was so bad that I knew something couldn't be right but knowing I had went off nexium and started dexilant got me to thinking maybe it was related so after researching dexilant I have decided I have had an allergic reaction to it.

I have been off it for 3 days and seem to be getting slowly better. I am no longer itching and the diarrhea has gotten some better but still having some issues with stomach pains after eating and now taking pepto which seems to be helping.

I hope by the end of this week my stomach will be better. I certainly hope so cause this sucks.

I have no side effects with Dexilant. However, the medicine does not help me.

I have not been officially diagnosed with GERD but that is what I suspect I have. Since my symtpoms involve chest pain, my Dr. wants to rule out any heart problems so he has scheduled me a stress test with a cardiologist next week. In the meantime, he gave me dexilant 60mg. which I took for 9 days. My stomach hurt, I had uncontrollable gas and the pain did not stop. Once I quit taking it, the gas was gone. I threw away the rest of the samples, bad stuff in my opinion! However, while waiting on my cardiologist appt. my chiropractor suggsted a natural antacid which I have been taking for almost a week and have had no chest pain and much less burping since! I hope this means I do not have heart trouble!

I have been on Dexilant for about 2 weeks. I have actually had less frequent and smaller stools since being on it. The first couple of days it made me a bit fuzzy headed. It has helped but not 100%. I have not had a endoscopy or colonoscopy yet so my diagnosis right now is either IBS and/or GERD, AR.
