Something stuck in my throat, what am I to do???

Helo all

I know you have heard this over & over!!

I've got something stuck in my throat. I was at the doctor 8 times now.

They treated me 5 times for airway infection. The 6 visit to the doctor

they treated me for brongitus. The 7 visit I went for X-rays.

Now the 8th visit they put me on treatment for reflux.  I'm 5 days now on the reflux medication with NO IMPROVEMENT.

Can someone please tell what  next step I must take. I dont sleep much, food doesn't stay inside and the irritation and the thing stuck in throat doesn't want to go away!!

Please help!!

If things are pretty bad in your esophagus it will take longer than 5 days o see improvement. You also may have to try a different med. Not everyone responds to the the same meds the same way. Just curious as to which med you are taking right now? Sometimes people need to use a couple different or different doses to get relief too. A lot of times it may be a couple weeks before you notice any improvement.

are you seeing a GI doctor now or did your PCP or ENT prescribe the meds? If you are seeing a GI, and I suggest you do, They will probably want to do an EGD. That way they can see how much damage and such is going on inside.

go see ent and ask them to check for LPR.

lpr requires higher dose PPI.

try following the GERD diet STRICTLY.

Hi Rish,

Sorry that you're not feeling well. It sounds like you can be suffering from LPR reflux. What kind of medication were you given and at what dosage? Like Bill said, it takes time for your throat and/or esophagus to heal. One of my first LPR symptoms was a feeling of something stuck in my throat coupled with difficulty swallowing. I know how scary and unpleasant this can be but I'm confident that if my symptoms could subside, so can yours. In the meantime, stay on your medication and get scoped by an ENT.

Good morning everyone!!

I'm so tired. Well my GP gave me Lenamet 400mg to drink twice a day before eating.

Before I started using this medication I had a dry but really bad cough and the irritation in my throat let me cough alot.

Know on this medication it turned in to a really bad wet cough like asthma. Its really hard to breath while coughing and my throat is so sore (not when I swallow) but inside. My lumps in my throat is swollen and my voice doesn't sound like me anymore.

I'm trying not to talk that much, then the cough is less.

I forgot, they made me an appointment with a Nose, Ear and Throat Specialist on Friday. But its still so long to go and the little sleep at nite isn't helping much!!

I sympathise with you.

In summary - Probably 15/18 years ago I started to suffer with reflux, due to a hiatus hernia, after 10 years or so on medication, I noticed a lump sensation in my throat and about the same time started coughing when talking.

Being on the phone a lot at work, it was a big problem.

So I had a Nissen fundoplication (a partial one) which went great, I had the usual problems, of eating a bit to quick or not chewing enough (when I was back on solids) after the op which lead to terrible pain as the food was stuck. But that soon made me eat smaller mouthfuls and chew more.

For 3 years I was ok and was so pleased with the results, although the lump sensation in my throat never went away.

Then in October last year the cough returned with a vengeance, after feeling symptoms of heart burn again, infact I could lie in bed and actually feel the burn sensation moving up my esophagus.

I have had an endoscopy since to check the Nissen is still in place, which apparently it is, which is odd, as I know I am getting some mild reflux.

Now prior to referring to ENT my GP has but me on Lamprazamole and Rantinadine, which has made some difference - the burn has gone, and I can sleep flat.

Unfortunately it has made no difference to my persistent cough. (my throat is not sore though)

The only thing that does is an over the counter antiseptic throat spray that I now use if I cough or get the asthma sensation. I also avoid chocolate and coffee which irritate it immediately.

I found this forum in search of others with the same cough issue, although I am just about resigned to the thought that my larynx is permanently damaged due to years of acid reflux.

Hello All,

I had NF about 9 weeks ago (full) and still have the lump/something stuck in the throat. I still have the cough and I produce quite a lot of mucous/saliva and although it's a bit better than it was a few weeks after the surgery it is still a problem and not a pleasant on.

Every time I swallow I swallow mucous/saliva but the lump/stuck in the throat feeling never goes completely away. I don't notice it to much when I'm eating but I can't eat all the time. lol

I had my sinuses reamed out, my tonsils removed and my nose repaired prior to Gerd surgery and it did nothing to help. I thought the NF surgery for GERD would stop it but so far it hasn't even though the acid seems to be better and at times totally gone after surgery.

I have read in-depth studies that go back as far as 150 years on the British Journal "The Lancet" about a problem similar to this and they called it and some still call it "water brash". Whatever it is I still have it. The only difference in now and then is that I know what it is and I try not to let it bother me as much. I try to live well in spite of it. It's hard but it can be done.

My surgeon calls it intra-esophageal reflux. I can't find nearly as much about his term as I can about water brash or hypersalivation as it is sometimes called.

Not all of us have an uneventful road or recovery. Everyone has bumps in the road and we can't always control what happens to us be we can have a say in how we react to the things that happen to us.
