Hi Saginaw,Many have nausea post-Nissen, as gastritis can be result of surgical irritation. It's not easy or fun, but as Rita said, it will gradually diminish. Things will get better!
Diarrhea is another side to the same coin for many. The stomach and wrap become irritated and the result is a dumping episode that results in diarrhea. Unfortunately, this too is quite common among people healing from Nissen surgery. I had dumping episodes (more rarely as time passed) well into my second year. I now do no experience that problem at all. (my surgery was in February 2009.)
Take it easy with the fiber at this early stage of recovery...it can create more gas. See what works, though...if you can tolerate it without an increase in gas buildup, go for it!
Have you tried anti-nausea medications? If not, you might want to ask your GI doctor whether or not he/she thinks they would benefit you for a while.
Try not to get discouraged. We've all been where you are. If you can find the ability to relax and surrender into your recovery it will be a lot easier to handle. I know it can seem like you'll never improve, but you will. Just take it a day at a time, and remember that each day is another day closer to recovery.
This recovery is a long-term process, and while most of the healing takes place in the first six months, the rest will take a year. I've found that, to my surprise, I continued to improve into the second year.
Good luck with your GI appointment.
We'll be interested in hearing what you find out.
Take care,
Denise
