Prevacid or Dexilant for LPR?

Hey Everyone,

I just switched from 60 mg of prevacid to 60 mg of dexilant a day. Before switching, I had mild breakthrough symptoms. Now, I have been on Dexilant for 4 days, but am clearing my throat and coughing more. Does that mean it's not working as well as Prevacid, or does it take time to build up in your system?

Also, can anyone recommend a nose spray for constant post-nasal drip/mucus which does not seem to clear no matter what I do (and is worse in the morning)?

Astepro is about the best I've found. It doesn't stop the reflux associated sinus drip but it helps me.

Hi Faith,
Just out of curiosity what problems were you having with dexilant?
I was on Nexium for a year and a half,and it just stopped working.i am on my 9th day of taking dexilant and i have had throat issues too?
I am wondering if it is related.
What were your symptoms?
I am having an ultra sound of my throat tomorrow.
i already had a barrium swallow,which should nothing.
i have an apt with an E.N.T .in 3 days and an apt with a Gi doc in 2 weeks(I have waited for 3 months for an apt with the Gi doc)

Hi all-
I was on dexilant while my esophagus healed from the hole my GI doc tore in it. I did notice it didn't work as fast as prevacid or aciphex for me. It did seem to work very well for me once it built up I guess. Not sure why it took longer. With the others I noticed it working in about 2 to 5 days, it took dexilant almost 2 weeks. I did like the fact that I could take it any time and didn't have to wait before I ate.

Hey,

So the first night I took it I regurgitated (which I hardly ever do)...Then two nights later I experienced horrible throat clearing and coughing, but strangely this dissipated almost immediately. Now, I am suffering from post-nasal drip and mucus saliva. I had a runny nose for three days (I don't think it was related to LPR, I was sneezing and I never had a symptom like this) and then it turned into post-nasal drip. Besides for that, I am happy to say I don't have any symptoms (can't believe I'm writing that!)

What symptoms did you guys experience on Dexilant?

My doctor put me on Dexilant 60 mg. while waiting on my stress test to determine if the chest pains I was experiencing were from my heart. They did not stop any of my symptoms but I developed uncontrobable gas. I took them for 9 days and quit. Had my stress test and doctor said my heart was "perfect" and told me to take prevacid for 30 days. I left the cardiologist office and went straight to the store and bought prevacid. I have now taken it for over a week, have had no chest pain or other symptoms.
