Hiatal Hernia and Excessive Belching

I have read that a symptom of a hiatal hernia is excessive belching. I am wondering why that is? Is it becuase the hernia causes the LES to become weaker thereby allowing air to be dispelled easier?

It may be that air gets into the stomach more easily with a hernia. Belching is also an accompaniment to Helicobacter - have you been tested?
