My Nissen will be undone next week

My surgeon ,first propose dilatation.i did one last week ,but no good results .i asked him if he can undo my nissen he says ok without hesitation and he asked me for a manometry first.before the surgery i did not make a manometry only a barium test that shown normal esophageal clearance,but post surgery i had major issues with esophageal clearance,until 8 weeks post op day after day my appetite decrease ,now i only can have some liquids...i hope i would be like before surgery after this undo...i almost ate everything but not citron or lemon nor alcohol..i had only irritated throat if i did not take nexium...Now i am starving because i am in pain and my esophagus burning...

this is a very tough situation, but in this situation i support your decision especial since dilation was not successful

Dencha..anyway some surgeons advised dilataion while others urged me to undo it...I will pursue to court the doctor for medical malpractice and serious moral pain
Having all documents that show i was not in need for surgery and indication for my case also for damage caused to the esophagus previously intact as barium test shown .also i have been told that dilatation will resorbe by time from 75 to 25%after 4 years.and now i feel bad 80%

No disrespect or malice intended here but why are you taking the surgeon to court?  Didn't you ask for all those paper results before your surgery?  I am just trying to understand.

he did not respect any indication nor tests made previously.anywa its my job to take him to the court its my lawyer after consultation with many surgeon...sorry my friend it ths makes you angry

Soliver, I am also curious to know if it's the same surgeon that will be undoing your wrap. I thought that when you go for any surgery, there is a form you sign that releases the doctors from any risks or complications due to surgery including death. Did the surgeon say that you were a good candidate for this surgery and what was he basing it on. To be honest, my surgeon said that I was a good canditate for the nissen wrap, however, I didn't ask what that means....after finding this site, I realized how major this surgery was....thank God that everything worked out.

Good luck with your take-down Soliver, please keep us posted. I am curious since I wanted a take-down 11 months ago but my surgeon said the risk was greater than having the wrap...I am glad today that I waited, of course, without the support of you guys, I might have gone crazy.

Hi Ashley, Rita is doing well. I spoke to her via e-mail over the holiday. She has had a couple of dilaitions and things are improving for her. She is keeping herself very busy. She is truly a remarkable woman. She was right, her wrap was too tight.

All...yes the same surgeon will release the wrap ,he said do not worry its easy and i am ready to undone it if you feel bad as soon as possible,i signed a paper before surgery yes,but if there was a major medical mistake this not having to do with the paper i have signed.first he did it without any manometry or bravo testhe based only on my irritated throat and in the fact that when i stop nexium things become worth..just that..week after week i felt things become worth,my throat more irritated, my appetite decreased and i had and still have spasm in the chest,the barium shown major esophageal clearance and antireflux coming to my mouth even to my ears..and he always asked me how are you doing ,i said from bad to too bad,so he told me lets undo this surgery if you feel so bad..i asked him if he is angry he said no i want you feel better and it seems it did not work for you,I am ready for death under surgery and not sill suffering like now

I am concerned that you are using the same Dr. you plan to file a lawsuit against to do your surgery.  It does not make sense to me as you abviously do not like or trust this surgeon. 

No disrespect meant here and to be honest this is your own decision to make.  I am not judging you.

Maybe you are right.Skitt,but my GI told me that the surgeon who did it know very well what he have done...anyway i saw another surgeon also ready to undo this surgery,but he wanted me to do some test before like Manometry...I am hesitated i do not decide who will undo it to me..yes i do not trust that surgeon although hi is famous because he did not ask me pre surgery any test and he is always in a harry he does every day at least 3 op sleev and many other operations..his mistake was that i do not need that surgery and he done it to me.I hoe God will help me to make the right choice before monday.thank you for your concern

Hoping all goes well Monday. It is true the original surgeon knows exactly what was done. I am wondering if it may be a contradiction if he undoes it and you go to court?
I would have the manometry done, if it were me, to find out exactly what the underlying problems is. A barium swallow doesn't always show what is really going on pressure wise in the esophagus.

Bill Sure i will do manometry tomorrow morning,thing that must be have done before surgery but unfortunately he did not ask me to do it,specially all the doctors i have seen told me i only needed in extreme only toupet not Nissen because i do not have hypotony..anyway,thank you for thinking about me,and for your precious advise.i wish things could be fixed .....

You are welcome. I was thinking exactly what the other docs told you. Would have been better to gone with a partial wrap. I get so frustrated hearing of stories like yours when doctors don't get the whole picture with the correct tests before doing these surgeries.

We will be waiting for good news soon.

Hi Solver,

A little over a year ago I went to a new surgeon (we moved) to have my wrap checked.  My asthma doctor wanted to make sure that it was intact.  When I mentioned to the surgeon how important the right surgeon is, he reminded me that the right patient is just as important.

A skilled and knowledgeable Nissen surgeon will do ALL  the tests (or have access to results of those tests that have been done recently) to ensure that something like what happened to you does not happen.  Just hearing that a person is having difficulty with reflux is not enough information to ensure the best outcome.

I'm thinking of you and hoping that you find the answers you need to feel better!

I cannot imagine the anxiety and frustration you must be feeling through all of this as I have never been in your place.  I do hope that all goes well and that you get some normalcy back into your life.  You deserve to feel good and be happy.
