Hi I'm new, just had Tif and I feel amazing

Ok so had Tif 2 weeks ago and I feel amazing. I've been able to eat just about anything since day one of the surgery with almost no pain at all. I was on Omeprazole for 2 years prior to surgery had a drop, endoscopy, and can't remember name of procedure but had tube in stomach for 24hrs. This site is amazing and been so helpful.

- what symptoms did you have? GERD or LPR (throat/mouth) as well - for how long?
- why did you decide to get TIF if the meds were working?
- where did you get the TIF done and whether your insurance covered it?

- why did you decide to get TIF if the meds were working? Meds weren't enough anymore and Tif was more easy to overcome given that I have a5 yr old that I stay at home with and watch
- where did you get the TIF done and whether your insurance covered it? Santiam Memorial Hospital Dr Robery Mcgreevy did it and my insurance paid for part of it.
Was also on meds for 2 + yrs

Glad to help just found out I have an ulcer in my left nostril from the surgery but should heel over time with a little medicine

Ok so been noticing sharp pains on the sides of my stomach lately anybody have this post surgery and it appears to be gas I usually burp after it happens a few minutes later

Hope you feel better. I'll be curious to know what your surgeon thinks about these sharp pains.

Can you remind me if you are able to control your symptoms with the meds/lifestyle changes? Is that the reason you are not considering either a TIF or a Nissen at this time? What exactly are your GERD and LPR symptoms? Thanks.

Hello from CA!

I had both the TIF and a partial wrap on 12/23. Doctor said the TIF would pull the stomach back down out of the chest as well as solve the LES being too loose (or whatever the correct terminology is) and that the partial Nissen (surgeon had a name for this but I forget) would repair the hiatal hernia.

Before the surgery, the doctor thought he would only do the TIF, as the hernia wasn't too big. He had me sign a consent for the Nissen, in case the hernia turned out to be too large or not repairable just with the TIF.

I'm assuming both procedures work together and I sure hope I didn't get two of them just so doc could practice the TIF.....

Anyway, I'm on week four and feeling pretty good.

I'm trying to wean from Nexium and the backlash heartburn is tough. It does not feel like reflux up into my esophagus, just a burning in my stomach. I sure hope this passes! I did the surgery hoping to get off meds, which are causing absorption problems for me.

It has been sohelpful to read these posts from all of you who KNOW what it's like.

I saw the brochure for tif. The nissen is suppose to be for severe symptoms no?

So what did your surgeon say about lifting restrictions and / or your ability to engage in exercise? Can your run, jump, etc.??

2 weeks post tif I was able to do whatever, run or lift it didn't matter

I had the Nissen Fundo 7 weeks ago.  Never heard of TIF, what is it?  If it involves the hiatal hernia repair, they did that along with my Nissen - just never heard the acronym TIF? 

I see my surgeon next week again.  This will be the 3rd appointment since my operation.  I can now eat anything, but I am having some break through reflux.  I had none the first 3 weeks, but have had some since.  Hoping she has some answers.  It would really stink to have to stay on nexium and also have to avoid the many foods that create my symptoms, it would make me wonder why I had the surgery?  I too hate taking meds and have been taking them for 13 years!!!!!  I suspect they are creating some of my other issues that seem unrelated, but probably are; anemia, asthma etc. 

I had stomach problems when I started eating and drinking after the special diet for my TIF. Soft drinks and beer burned my stomach so much that I could only take a few sips and throw the rest away. I had to slowly ease back into a normal diet over several weeks. My TIF diet included much more dairy than I had been consuming. I cut back on the dairy products and that helped my recovery. I must have some lactose intolerance. I also had an endoscopy 5 months after my TIF and I had two ulcers that were almost healed. I had 5 endoscopies before my TIF and nothing was ever said about ulcers so they must have been caused by the TIF surgery.

There is nothing about the EsophyX device that can scratch things. If there were, there would be absolutely no way the manufacturer could get either the device, or the TIF procedure, approved by the FDA. The focus of the procedure is in the fundus and the LES, and not in the general stomach area.

Even if this remote possibility occurred, the lining of the stomach and esophagus quickly heal from such things. Biopsies are routine during EGDs, and this involves scouring/scooping out samples of tissue.

Ulcers and erosions occur from persistent action over the course of time, whether by infection, toxins (like alcohol), or acid.
