So it seems I am not alone.
My reflux was symptomatic with pain (my ph tests did show acid and motility was impaired) and acid reflux burning up my esophagus. My LES was definitely not working right and had a hiatal hernia that made it worse...had some improvement on PPIs, but acid breakthroughs constantly and especially when leaning over, lying down had more pain. So, I went the route of the Nissen, no regrets there, but I am still having pain due to hypersensitivity to acid levels. I had extreme burning pain for a while, and tried desipramine, and nortriptyline but both had side effects I couldn't handle. I tried Neurontin before the Nissen to no avail, so now I am trying Lyrica. Have seen some improvement, but we started at very low dose and moving up. The side effects are tolerable and just hoping that his drug will help me get out of the cycle of pain. My pain is less burning now and more like constant discomfort/ache that won't go away. Still try to watch my diet, but at least I have been able to eat more normally than before. I had lost 25 lbs because I was struggling so much with the reflux pain.
