Hi guys, I'm considering getting some cosmetic dentistry done due to the teeth erosion from GERD. I contacted my dentist and will find out what my options are.

My question is have any of you had this done. I know it's expensive but do you know how much per tooth?

If you are talking about ceramic crowns that look like real teeth then I think it is about 1000.00 per teeth, then with dental insurance the out of pocket cost would be somewhere around $500.00. I hope technology improves to the point when GERD becomes a thing of the past with new surgical techniques such as TIF or LINX. I hope they event something new that is better then a nissen fundoplication. Maybe stem cells and growing a new LES and Gastroesophageal Flap Valve. Yes there are two natural barrier to acid from the stomach the Lower Esophageal Sphincter and the Gastroesophageal Flap Valve. Once these two are compromised through food poisoning, binge drinking, excessive vomiting, genetics, wearing tight clothing which causes hiatal hernias, then it is hello GERD. I know what you mean JAM.

It's surprising in this day and age there isn't a better solution to this. Maybe it's cause all of the PPI companies are make lots of $$$ from the sufferers.

When I was child I use to hear of people getting hearburn and I was always curious what that was.

I know one month is still relatively early....considering I had this about a year non stop. I mean my stomach and chest feels better.....I just don't undersand why the upper most part isn't? The mouth? If that gets better, there's going to be a huge party I swear full of soft and liquid foods lol

There must be a way to restore both valves to increase the chance of preventing reflux. Some genius needs to figure out a way to recreate the Gastroesophageal Flap Valve. To bad the LINX procedure can't be used on someone with a hiatal hernia. Maybe they should event such a device that can be used on individuals with a hiatel hernia. What do you think Maximus. Maybe our community can figure out a new surgical technique, something completely out of the box. Most would say we need doctors and surgeons to figure this out but I think we could use an engineer in fluid dynamics to look at this and figure a new surgical techniques or perhaps teaming up an engineer with doctors and scientist. Just ranting of course but might be someone in our community that can start this up. Of course no one can come close to God's design.

You're going to laugh at this one....but I am a Civil Engineer. Not specifically a fluid dynamics engineer but in Civil we studied Fluid Dynamics.

The linx sounded intriguing at first. I and probably would've pursed that route if it was offered in the US. However, I just don't know how much more effective that would be than a Nissen. I thought long and hard about this but the LINX doesn't necessarily make the valve tighter I think but just sort of wrap itself around the LES to prevent liquid/volume reflux from coming up. I read somewhere that its not suppose to put pressure on the walls of the LES. That's why I thought the Nissen would be more effective cause its actually creating a wrap around your LES that supposedly will mold around it. All of us who don't get better through medicine or surgery look on forums and other websites for more information on what's going on with ourselves. I trusted Nissen cause its been around for a long time and I could do it locally where I live. If I run into any problems I can get it attended by my local surgeon. It would be simpler.

We are still early at the one month mark so hopefully time will heal. That's what I'm hoping for....

Sucks having halitosis, acid mouth, burning mouth, sour taste, and ulcers under the tongue. No females will come close to you. If you figured out a way please share.

Haha, you bet! Muscle Milk is pretty good. Lately I've been making protein shakes with this protein I use to take prior to getting LPR/GERD. It's called Optimum Nutrition. One scoop has 25g of protein and it taste pretty good. Sometimes I get tired of soups and resort to protein shakes to maintain the protein.

The Glock firearm made is Austria was not invented by a firearm expert but somebody totally outside the firearms field and invented by an engineer. It was a breakthrough in firearms technology because the inventor was not corrupted by the preconceived notions of how a firearms should work. He had never even designed a firearms in the past. The Glock is a fantastic weapon and well designed. We can do the same with medical procedures.

I would have tried the linx because it is completely reversable and no dissection of critical internal organs is required. This can be removed with ease and if did not work then a nissen. Of course I did not qualify because of my hiatal hernia.

Yes Maximus it was fantastic, I had my life back and it was the best thing I ever did. It was instant results of no more acid reflux. I was in heaven eating everything and enjoying my favorite foods. Glass o wine with steak and all kinds of dessert. It was one stupid mistake at an amusement park that destroyed the stitches. Remember to take care of your new stomach and stay away from amusement park rides with a lot of g force such as rollor coasters etc. Pay attention to the signs that restrict people due to medical reasons. It may say no one with cardiac problems and other medical problems. Remember you are one with a medical problem. Keep the stitches from being compromised and you should be alright. Should last over 10 years. Remember to take it easy even after three years. Stay away from anything that can cause intraabdominal pressures. I also read failed nissen from bench pressing and weight lifting and doing to much situps. Don't do anything physically hard for a year until the scarring is complete. Trust me you do not want to go through a redo because a redo means anxiety and depression.

I did do some jogging at about two weeks and light exercise bands at about 3 weeks but this was under my doctors orders. He was ok with it. As long as I don't lift anything heavy.....

I still feel like if I eat too fast, things get caught up in the wrap and I start to hiccup. I also can't burp like I use to. This tells me the wrap is still ok...no?

I meant to say take it real easy for at least a year until the scarring is over. I was extreme in that I did not carry anything slightly heavy for an entire year after my first surgery.

I'll do the same.....

It sucks cause today at work I was rolling a set of plans about 15-20 lbs......I didn't want to carry it but no one was there to help me. I did so but I didn't feel any pain but that's the last time I'll do that. I can't be putting myself at risk like that.

I think you're wrap sounds good. But even if your doctors said jogging is ok in two weeks and light exercise bands, I wouldn't do it just to be safe. You have so many years to ahead of you and a lot of time to jog in the future. I waited a year to begin jogging. My first wrap was successful until I screwed it up. Not enough scarring has occurred in two weeks I'm just doing a lot of walking and that's about it. Don't physically exert yourself yet.

I have been instructed not to carry anything over 20 pounds for two month. Don't risk it or you will herniate you're stomach or blow some stitches. Don't even risk 10 pounds for two months and 10 pounds is a gallon of milk. My first surgery instructions was do not carry anything over 10 pounds for the first two months. Don't risk it Maximus, it is not worth it. Focus on you health, you're work is nothing compared to your health. Tell you're boss you had surgery and cannot strain yourself.

Your new nissen well begin scarring which will make everything stick together really strong. right now the only thing that is holding everything are stitches. It takes around 6 months to a year to completely scar over and make everything stick together really good like glue. Once that happens a redo is very risky. Don't take a chance on a redo.

see that's what my surgeon said.

He said the that the stitches hold everything for only several weeks....from there out its the scarring. So is there a chance the scarring can improve the wrap?

My first nissen lasted three years until I screwed it up. Didn't your surgeon give you post surgery instructions?

The scarring makes the wrap strong and improves it. The scarring keeps everything together like super glue holding everything strong. The scar formation is what holds everything to together nice and tight and the stitches become secondary.

He did, but he said bands were ok and he encouraged me to do lots of walking which I did. I did go grocery shopping twice and carried some groceries.....nothing extremely heavy but I didn't feel anything tear or any pain. I did start jogging about at week 2-3 several times a week and my bands which he said was ok too. He was more strict about the eating. Which I have been...

JAM, that makes sense.....that's what my surgeon told me. So there is a chance over time the wrap may improve when the scarring take place no?
