Hello All,

My name is Aldo.

I had my nissen op 1 month ago.

On my second week I felt what I thought was gerd, but it did not feel the same as what I was feeling before. I did however feel my throat burning. I noticed that when I slept face up I felt the symptoms of gerd, but now when I sleep face down the symptoms do not appear.

The strage thing is that if I sleep on my right side no symptoms, but on my left side I do get the symptoms.  Has anyone else felt anything like that?

I also notice less belching especially when I eat smaller meals.  I'm starting to consider changing my diet to more softer foods after reading a lot of the posts on this forum, eventhough I can pretty much eat anything at 4 weeks post op. My surgeon told me to chew everything pretty slowly and to swallow my food when it was very mushy in my mouth.

Yes I have felt just like you. Especially the left side thing. I am 5 months out and still have symptoms and are taking PPI's. the symptoms are less that pre op though.
The left side thing is funny though,be cause our anotomy should actually work the other way around; like right side you should get symptoms, on the left no symptoms.

It is a strange feeling that the right side is ok, but the left is not.

You mentioned that you're taking ppi meds.  How long did your dr., instruct you to take them?

Why did your dr., tell you to take ppis?

My dr., instructed me Not to take any ppis.

Last night I took two table spoons of mylanta and slept face down.  No reflux.

how about during the day?  Are you feeling any symptoms of gerd?

Hi sorry for not answering sooner, I just missed your reply.

My doctor said I should take them for 14 days post op, but every time I tried to stop and lowered the dose I instantly felled the LPR falring back up.
When I had my follow up after 3 months I told the surgeon I was not off the PPI's yet because I still got bad symptoms when I tried. He told me to give it another 3 months and then come back for a second follow up.

The GERD symptoms are totally gone and have been gone ever since I upped the dose to 2 * 30 mg Lansoprazole a day. All my throat issues including feeling i am choking, post nasal drip and hoarseness has bit by bit gotten a little better, but as said earlier, as soon as I lower the dose I am back to square one
