How much weight did you lose from Nissen diet?

I lost about 15 pounds overall. I'm not sure if it is possible to maintain weight since your food intake is drastically less for a while. Once you are eating normally again though it is very easy to gain it all back. I have just about gained it all back, which makes me a bit sad. It was nice being 15 pounds lighter.

You just want to make sure you get as many calories as you can. Ensure is great for that, since they are basically a meal replacement in liquid. I drank those constantly during the liquid only stage.

I didn't do protein shakes, but I think they'd do great too. Anything that can give you lots of calories.

My diet was the following:

Liquids for 10 days. I was fine with clear or fuller liquids. about 7-10 days pureed foods. I probably could have started this sooner. I basically bought soups and just used a hand blender to turn them to near liquid. After that I started more challenging foods. First mashed potatoes, then soft pasta, eggs. The 4 week mark was Christmas, and I was able to eat most of a normal Christmas dinner, just slowly with small bites. Only avoided the meat. By 6 weeks I tried meat, BBQ and lunch meat, both were fine. At week 7 I then tried breads, no problem. Now at 8 weeks I can eat everything normally. Regular bites, regular portions of food. I was very cautious during all of it, and I think I probably could have advanced faster.

I didn't have much nausea. The doctor gave me nausea meds to take at the same time I took the Lortab (painkiller). It did a pretty good job. The only time I felt a little nauseous was the first 2 times I took the Lortab since I guess my body was not used to it. The first few weeks are challenging, yes. The diet put me in a foul mood. I was dying for something solid. It got better when I could do the pureed soups. At least some variations in taste then.

I was off work for 3 weeks, but I could have gone back at 2 if I really needed to. The first 3 days for me was a little hard to move around. I had to have help getting out of bed, going down stairs. I couldn't walk very far. It got much much better after 3 days though. By 1 week I was up and about normally, feeling no physical restrictions. Went to a Christmas party at the 1 week mark and a concert at 10 days.

14 pounds... Less than I would lose during a gastritis/esophagitis episode.  Those averaged about 20 pounds each occurance. 

I am almost 3 months in (on feb 2) and I have lost about 25 pounds (12 kg) after the surgery. Pretty much I guess. I am still eating small portions and chew, chew, chew. That has saved my stomach from bloating, do get nausea sometimes. But the worst part is when I get this shakes - start to shake, feel like I´m going to faint and so on... but that eventually clears up. Feels like am diabetic or something, but I have heard that it´s pretty common in bariatric surgeries.

Sometimes, not always. Sometimes I think it´s from when I over eat (and were talking less than half of a normal portion here) and sometimes I think it´s from low bloodsugar. Talked with a girl who went through gastric by-pass and she said that it could also be from the weight loss, the liver release alot of piled up sugar and boom, there it is. I have lost a lot of weight in a short time, so I guess it could be the case.

This surgery sure is one of a kind! Bringing out all kinds of weird side-effects and healing.

When I was recovering from my Nissen three years ago I had some dumping syndrome symptoms.  It never gave me any of the side-effects described...just loud grumbling and stomach noises, and then a bout of diarrhea.  It usually only lasted about a day, but could repeat from time to time depending upon what I ate and how my wrap was feeling.

This continued, though gradually decreasing through the year mark.  I figured it as a surgery side-effect I'd just have to live with.  However sometime during the second year it stopped completely. Go figure.

thanks, denise. i think i had that a couple of days ago. i am 7 days post op. all of a sudden i could hear my stomach growl and a few minutes later, i was in the bathroom. nice to know this is normal.
