Sleep positioning for GERD?

Does anyone know what the best position is for sleeping with GERD? Some people say right side and some people say left. Some times it's hard to tell which is better for me since I'm asleep. Has anyone tried any bed wedges? do they work? Thanks.

left hand side, as exits to stomach are right hand side. this should minimise reflux out of the stomach. also sleep with bed elevated 6 inches by wedging something under the head of your bed, books anything will do.

Thanks. I don't think my wife would appreciate me raising the entire bed. Has anyone tried any foam wedges so that I'm the only one on an incline? Any recommendations? It seems like reviews are somewhat mixed on them.

Left side is the best for you. The foam wedges are ok, but I still ended up in the recliner. I finally made the investment and bought an adjustable bed, that way my side of the bed is up and wife's side lays flat. You can't really lay close like that but at least we're in the same room and bed together.

It also depends a lot on the person. I cannot lie on my left side when I sleep - only on my stomach. I also struck out with the wedges, I kept rolling off or winding up with worse reflux cause I was bending strangely at my midsection. Most GERD advice sites recommend against them.

We raised the head of the bed and my husband didn't mind it at all. Maybe just try it and see if your wife minds? We are both students but my husband and I can't wait until the day we can buy an adjustable bed. For now, when I have reflux I sleep on the couch. Definitely not nice!

I use a wedge with a regular pillow on top of it and it works good for me.
