Hi madhar,Welcome to Healing Well! Sorry to hear you're having problems. I'm three years post op, and I had the surgery because of my unhealthy asthmatic lungs. Fortunately, the surgery has done what I'd hoped for me, as my lungs are healthy again.
Have you had any testing to see if your wrap is intact? I do know (from personal experience as well as observing other posts) that it is certainly possible to get reflux after a Nissen. Surgeons only attempt to get reflux levels to "normal" (a DeMeester score of less than 14.7). If the wrap was made tight enough to get reflux levels to zero we wouldn't be able to swallow.
Bottom line is that if you overdo it, even with the Nissen, you can get into some reflux issues. It's often possible to get yourself back to normal with careful eating, even when it feels that things are back to the way they were post op.
My lungs are my barometer of how good my wrap is working. As long as they stay healthy and I'm breathing, I know that I'm in business. Reflux is rare for me. My asthma doc and PCP have requested that I continue taking 40mg of Protonix before dinner, and I still sleep with the head of my bed elevated. This is because my lungs reacted to a very small amount of reflux post op--my DeMeester was very borderline. Knowing that reflux is still possible after a Nissen, they want to be proactive in protecting my lungs.
Have you made an appointment with your GI doc? Please remember that just because your reflux is bad right now doesn't mean it won't settle down. Some of us who have atypical symptoms react a lot to a small amount of reflux.
I hope you get things settled back down soon.
Glad you've joined us!
Best wishes,
Denise
