Prilosec dosage

How long does Prilosec need to be taken to repair the esphogus? I've read that it can take up to 6 months, but the Prilosec says to only take it for 14 days, and then you must wait 3 months before starting another 14 day treatment.

So when someone says it can take up to 6 months, do they mean you need to take it every day for 6 months, or that you do three 14 day treatments, 3 months apart?

I'm just confused as to how much you can take or need to take. Thanks.

Hi there,

Sorry about the lack of responses. Unfortunately this is a very difficult question to answer as it depends on the grade of esophagitis that you have (grades A-D). Even if you provide that info, it would still vary depending on what else you do (I.e., what acidic foods you're avoiding, etc). I would personally ask my doctor since it seems you're following a care plan of some sort.

Hi jgk 381, i can only tell you of my experience with esophagitis as everyone heals or responds differently to medication.I had esophagitis which was bad enough for me to end up in hosital,thought i was having a heart attack.Anyway i was put on 80 mg of nexium and 300 mg ranitidine at bedtime and it took about 3 months to feel anyway normal again,then the dose was reduced to 40mgs nexium,overall it took 6 months to feel better.I think you need to take advice from a GI consultant about what ppi to take and what dosage. Hope you get it sorted! Barry
