Hi Anathema,Right now your stomach is swollen, which is why you're not able to eat much. The brain interprets the swelling as fullness. As the swelling goes down you'll begin to be able to gradually eat larger quantities of food. Patience!
If you take tiny bites and chew, chew, chew, you'll be able to handle a wider variety of foods. At your stage of the game I was probably managing to eat a quarter to a third of a cup of food at a time. My surgeon gave me the freedom to eat "whatever [could] be chewed to a liquid", which meant thoroughly chewed to a creamy consistency. It worked for me.
Do not drink liquids from a straw because it introduces more air into the stomach and creates more bloating and gas. Also, stay away from all carbonated drinks right now. The bubbles will do the same. No iced drinks, as the cold can cause discomfort and spasms in your healing esophagus/wrap area.
Hot (not scalding...very warm) tea can help calm the esophagus and help things go down easier. I always tried to have it handy when eating. If you don't like it, then just some room temperature water will do just fine.
Happy healing! Glad you've joined us.
Best wishes,
Denise
