Hi all,
I don't know where to start or what I'm really even purporting, but I wanted to share the story since I've been through a year of absolute hell and finally seem to be on the other side. I would like to add that I would not advise anyone to stop taking medication without consulting their doctor first. I've posted so much here on HealingWell that everyone knows my story and background so I'll skip all that unless someone has questions.
about two months ago, I had to stop my PPI (Nexium) for pH monitoring. The initial rebound effects were terrible but I made it through somehow. I was eating very healthily, exercising, and was in normal BMI range after being pretty overweight for my entire adult life. This was exactly what I had been doing before but was still having symptoms.
Since then, I have been vacationing in California and have not been watching what I eat as carefully as I do back home in Finland. But, somehow, I've been fine. I've even had some trigger foods (like a slice of pizza yesterday) that have given me no adverse symptoms. I rarely feel bloated and I never have heartburn anymore, both of which were my main symptoms.
Now, I cannot say for certain if my acid reflux - if that's even what it is - is cured. There are times when I think I feel "stuff" creeping up my esophagus, but I don't know how much of that is me being hypersensitive and how much of it is really happening. There is never any pain when this happens. I also rarely regurgitate anymore.
Again, I'm not suggesting that anyone do anything, and I feel really unsure writing this post because I don't really know what I'm saying. But I always liked to hear people's resolution stories, and this very well might be mine. I will still keep my appointment with my GI in August. My theories are either a) I had some type of esophageal damage which caused my initial symptoms, and then the continued Nexium caused some kind of hypochoridic situation which made the symptoms worse, or b) I have no idea.
Take care all,
Ashley
