Hi all-

Well I made it through knee surgery and all is good there now. Then the dreaded kidney stone showed up last Monday. What a way to start off a week. shakehead Then we found out Michelle's insurance ran out 5/31 and now we have to figure out how to pay for my knee and kidney stone surgery. Sure it won't be cheap.

Sorry for for being away again. We lost our internet again and I have to go to the library to get online. I will try to pop in when I can until we get the bill paid.

Ouch, Bill! I hope they can get you fixed up right.
I hope the hospital works with you on the bills. My insurance runs out at the end of August. I'm hoping my private disability insurance kicks in soon after that.

Bill, I am sorry to read of the loss of your insurance and I am sure that is weighing heavily on your mind. Please don't worry about being away as your health has to come first. I do hope you can get back on line soon :-)

I am so sorry to hear that you have lost your insurance. I too am sure that is a heavy weight on your shoulders. cry I do hope that you get things figured out before long.. It is such a terrible time that we are living in right now.. I will pray for you and your family to come through this low time in your life without scars.. :-)

I am sorry I have not been here lately, I just cannot seem to find the energy to do much of anything. I am hoping that I can get straightened out soon.. but I am also trying to acclimate myself to my new low level of energy. I have finally learned how to ignore the fact that my house needs vacuumed and dusted.. as long as I can get the sheets changed on my bed I feel that I have accomplished a lot.. tongue I have adjusted to only going to the grocery on Saturday and not being able to do laundry too nono I tried that once skull and all I got was overtired and palpitations for my efforts. My heart is in good shape just out of whack in the electrical department.
Thank goodness after almost 16 months my wrap is still doing it's job. I am reflux free and I am doing well. There are still a few things that I have to be careful with as far as my diet goes, but they are things that doing without will not hurt me.. like certain types of bread.. and hot dog buns.. they just do not agree with my wrap.
I am praying for you too, that you and your family will proceed with your lives without issues for a long time to come..

I'm beginning to feel better emotionally about the changes going on. I miss being a teacher, but feel I'm making a good move in heading for disability. Money still worries me, but I will trust that good things will happen in that area. I turned in my private disability insurance paperwork today. I'm hoping I filled out everything okay and that they take pity on me. ;))

Good Morning my friends,

I am glad to hear from you and Sandi,  I have had to learn how to not worry about a little dust and that housework can wait as I must take care of me first.  My energy level is low also which is so not like the "old" me so I get stuck in "stinkin thinkin" feeling like I am useless.

You have such a generous heart so know that it is ok to treat it special and do whatever you are able to do. 

Hurrah, your wrap is still doing it's job !  Know I am thinking of you and today I will not go on about my fears and issues but instead concentrate on helping others.

I sure do hope your paperwork for disability goes through smoothly.  Do not take NO for an answer.  It makes me feel sad to see so many of my special friends dealing with big issues but remember I have my fingers and toes crossed for you and I am praying that everyone finds something to smile about in life.

Hi Sandi,

I know how hard palpatations can be.  They really make your whole body feel strange.  My mom had lots of trouble with a racing heartbeat.  She ended up taking meds to slow it down and getting a pacemaker to step in if they got too slow.  It helped her a lot.  My PCP took care of her also, and he says he's always waiting for me to get that problem, since we're so much alike.

I have mitral valve prolapse, so I've experienced plenty of palpatations. Before I was diagnosed and knew it was not life-threatening, they used to make me feel faint.  It can be very scary.  My husband deals with them now.  He had a stress test, etc. and everything looked fine, but he still worries.

We've been babysitting our little grandson every day for three weeks this summer.  My son is a basketball coach, and is working a basketball camp.  It's great fun, but also exhausting!  He's 20 months old now and busy, busy, busy!  He is interested in everything and has developed a mind of his own.  Definitely have to pick your battles and distract, distract, distract! 

Yes, we're excited about meeting our new little grand-something!  My DIL doesn't want to know the sex, and I'm all for that.  Labor is a hard job, and it's nice to have an extra surprise to look forward to at the end!  It'll be a challenge for Grandpa and me to take care of TWO, though!  Yikes!  We'll have to buy some roller skates!

Take care of yourself, and keep up that good philosophy. Relax and take life easy one day at a time!

Hi Bill,

Sorry to hear you're struggling with more health problems.  It's also very disturbing to hear that you're without health insurance.  I hope you've found a way to get good care.  I assume you qualify for VA benefits, which is great, but it's still tough for your family.  Plus, I know you have favorite docs and specialists and it's hard to start over in a new facility with new docs.

I don't know if you've already looked into this, or if the types of benefits and help you'd need has not kicked in yet (2014 is the big date for lots of benefits), but here's a link to a website with healthcare information:  http://www.healthcare.gov/index.html

On the bright side, I hope your daughter is still having a grand time playing summer ball, and that you feel well enough to attend her games!

So . . . What would you do...?

I went back to the consultant during an acute flare up and intolerance of PPI medication. As usual the first thing they suggest is gastroscopy. Again. I'm through the flare up now and managing the side effects of the PPI - having to micromanage about 3 separate side effects. So my symptoms are back down to the irritating but not incapacitating level. And the gastroscopy is in 2 weeks - it'll be my third. The first was normal, the second not that exciting medically but consistent with reflux. So, should I make myself ill for the test? If I don't what is to be gained by it? I'm wondering whether to reduce my PPI before the test and create some pathology worth finding!!

MMM,

You are in a catch 22 on this one but I guess I would vote "go for it" because if your like me as soon as you cancel the scope your sx will flare again.  In the end I know you will choose what is best for you.

Thanks for you continued support and I wish someone would wave a magic wand.  I hate to post my problems all the time as I feel like I whine too much but know I am still here and I think of you often.  I am devoting today to doing things that are mind occupying and pleasant to help my mind stay in the present.

Hi MMM,

I vote for letting some symptoms rear their ugly heads.  You're not symptom free, so it's an attempt to get a clearer picture of what's going on.  I know you'll suffer for a while as a result, but once you're done with the test you can get back on the meds and straighten things around.

I understand your hesitancy!

Don't ever feel like you can't unload your cares and concerns on us!  That's what this forum is all about, and we're here for you.

I think you're wise to work on turning your mind to the NOW and positive activities.  Your mind can't think of a positive and a negative thought at the same time, so wrestle with those thoughts and make them focus on the many pleasant things you can do for yourself!  Be good to Kitt.  Show her the love and attention she deserves!  And that's a lot of love and attention!

Thanks both of you - I think I will try a few days of half dose to let the lid off the symptoms and maybe drink some coffee for good measure! Like you say, the symptoms are barely contained, so it won't take much to get it going. I can't cancel the scope because they are looking for causes of my anaemia. Also the scope causes me major anxiety, and having it hanging over me all the time would leave me stressed out of my tree. I have to have it out of the way and behind me and just pray they don't think of a reason to do it again next year!!

cry   Thank you.  On Friday my Pdoc told me I am medication resistant but wants me to try an atypical antipsychotic - Abilify - as a mood stablizer.

Abilify  is an atypical antipsychotic and antidepressant used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and clinical depression. Atypical antipsychotics have been associated with the development of hyperglycemia; in some cases, may be extreme and associated with ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar coma, or death.  It is also known for extreme weight gain and possible increase in cholesterol levels. 

As I am trying to get my cholesterol level down and have just lost 20 lbs by eating healthy I cannot take this medication and I won't.  I cannot take cholesterol meds as they trigger existing depression. 

For 6 years my P-doc has put me on drug after drug ( 14 different ones to date now) and I have to accept that she is just guessing at what might help so it makes no sense to keep on believing that she can help me. Over the next 3 days I am weaning off the med she started me on in December which seems to have made things worse. 

I am truly lost and feel like nobody can help me. Somedays it is so hard to hold on.  I hate what this is doing to my family who want so badly to see the old me and to spend time with the happy Mom they used to have.  I pray that I can find my way back to feeling useful and productive.

There are other doctors out there.  It looks like it's time to get another opinion.  You're a medical professional and know what's going on isn't right.  Don't allow this to send you into an abyss...keep hanging on and putting one foot in front of the other.  Make the calls.  See if your therapist can can get you in somewhere soon. 

I've seen the ads for Abilify on TV.  These drugs have terrible sounding side effects, that's for sure.

Good news - After 3 months of eating healthy my cholesterol levels are back in the normal range.  My Vit D3 is on the low side so My PCP wants me to increase my supplement and get my D3 level up which is important for anyone with depression as well as other things.

I am seeing my PCP on Wednesday and I will be talking with her re "all" and I know she will take the time to listen.

I am taking back control of my own life and my health and I am going to stop playing the good patient just to please everyone and not be called noncompliant.  Patients have rights and that includes nurses !!!!

I know I have a ways to go and a lot of work but I have accepted that I am responsible for myself.
