It takes a full year for complete healing.  Most healing takes place in the first six months, but not all.

When you have a Nissen surgery, the surgeon doesn't go for zero reflux.  If that was achieved, there would be zero eating as well, since food wouldn't go through the wrap.  There is a possibility of some reflux episodes even after the surgery--just less severe and less frequent.

As far as the spasms go...your upper GI tract is still some healing and adjusting to the changes that were made via surgery. You'll continue to heal and improve.  I had improvements even into the second year.

I am almost 9 months out and still get some false heartburn sensations sometimes. It used to be a lot more and often a couple of months ago, but things have calmed down now.

Many times I have wonderd if this surgery really worked out, I´ve had so many weird symptoms and quirks. But things do get better!

I even had a endoscopy and a PH-test around my 6 month mark, and they showed everything´s okay.

I think my healing will take a full year and maybe more, but if this surgery works out for me (hopefully for the rest of my life) it is all worth it!

The only thing I struggle with now is this post nasal drip that keeps bugging me, has gotten better over time, but still not perfect. And this is a side effect from surgery.

Yes, we did have surgery around the same time.
Things have improved for me, no more pressure in throat or pain. But I still have post nasal drip and phlegm in throat, but it is not sore and it is not painful to swallow as it used to be a couple of months ago.

I haven´t been on PPI´s since late april, and things have improved anyways, even without the medicin. I have been taking Zantac a couple of times when things (PND and phlegm) flares up, but not sure about the effect...

I have read about gastric bandning (surgery for weight loss) and have learnd that it is pretty common with a runny nose, hiccups and sneezing fits, especially after meals. This have something to do with nerve endnings sending "wrong" signals to the brain due to the surgery. Thinking gastric bandning is kind of similar, surgerywise, to what we been through.
Hoping my post nasal drip is due to some nerve endnings that need some more healing, hopefully it will be gone in the future when things have healed.

Or maybe I am just fooling myself and I still suffer from LPR?

So, yes, I do feel better. But I wish this irritating phlegm would go away, it is not all that much, but enough to bug me and reminding me of the ongoing issues with my throat.
