Lapro Nissen 6 days post op

Hi all, My name is Carol and I have been lurking for a while studying up on my procedures I had done last Wednesday. I will say that I am so excited to have found this group, it seems to me every other group on the internet is in some sort of super struggle to see who can feel the worst. It is wonderful to find a group such as yourselves that have such a positive outlook. You are definitely my kind of people.

Last week, I had the Nissen, my diseased gall bladder (with a very large stone) removed (I didn't realize how diseased until my surgeon gave my husband the pictures) and my hiatus hernia repaired. I was in hospital for 4 days and have been home for three days now. While I was in the were giving my dilaudid every three hours and it never seemed enough. I knew I wasn't that hypersensitive, but still, it really hurt. When I came out of the shower yesterday I was looking at my stabs and the one over the gallbladder is actually more of an incision- about 2 inches long. I understand the reason, the stone was quite large, a bell went off in the back of my mind but nothing clicked until last night.

Several years ago I had shingles. I sustained nerve damage along the path around my abdomen. Take a guess where that incision is???? You got it, directly on the path. So....... that explains the pain. I called and confirmed it was okay to do so then doubled my dosage of gabapentin temporarily and now the pain is almost completely gone.

I still have some lingering soreness, and new ones do seem to just keep surprising me, but they are minor and temporary so I can deal with them.

Tomorrow I get to start my full liquid diet! I am so excited! I have printed out the list from UPMC and already bought some New Cinnabon flavor Cream of Wheat because by golly I want to celebrate!

No, I am in Central Florida and the surgery was performed by Dr Golkhar at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. He is really good and has extensive training and experience.

I actually ended up with two surgeons, Dr Heggarty is the one that performed the gallbladder removal and Dr Golkhar did the hernia and Nissen.

I really could not have asked for a better team

I had my latest fundo last Tuesday, so I'm just a day ahead. I'm still leaning a ton on Dilaudid, and I'm sorry that particular drug didn't work for you. But, different people respond different to different drugs. I found my pain was not managed at all on the first one they had me on. If it isn't working -- ask for them to change the prescription and not just increase the dosage.

I'm jealous that you get to move to full liquid tomorrow -- I'm stuck on clear for 1 more week.

I am so glad to see that you have been lurking around and have decided you like us...

I am post Nissen 16 months.. I am still praising my surgeon here in south-eastern Florida.. I am please with the results and I haven't felt this good since I was young..

It is good to see you here and know that we have helped you. Please continue to come here and share with us your recovery. No two people experience all of the same recovery points and it is very helpful to new members to hear everything from all of our members. Please come here during your recovery with triumphs and backslides.. frustration and elation.. we are here to listen and support or praise the accomplishment...

The best advice I can give you is that which I was given when I had my surgery done... relax into your recovery and listen to your body.. if it says"don't do that" well... then don't do it.. remember that your outside will heal so much faster than your inside.. it can take up to a full year before your insides are back to normal.. not that you won't feel better, but outside your healed, inside you need way more time.... just don't push it.

I was back to work 18 days after my surgery, should have waited another few days but, I just had to take it easy. I hope your recovery is smooth...
