I agree. The monometry was insanely difficult to go through.

They had to insert the catheder down my nose twice. The first time it went in, hit my throat and curled around and was choking me. My reaction was to yank it out, and the Dr. freeked out because I did so. I kind of snapped at him with out meaning to. i apologized afterwards. The second time it went in and I helped by swallowing it. It doesnt hurt but its an odd sensation. It was hard to only swallow once after they fed me the water too. Instinct tells you there is something stuck in your throat and you need to swallow it down.

But if it want for that test they would of never found my problem.

Okay, guys...it is a challenging procedure, and I totally know why you hated it. It was the most difficult of the pre-op tests I took. However, to those friends surfing the net to research the procedure...it isn't always difficult to get the catheter down...mine went in pretty easily. The hardest thing for me was not swallowing in between swallowing requests. The swallowing reflex is strong. It takes some breathing and relaxation exercises to be able to cooperate and now swallow. You will be fine with this procedure. You'll be glad when it's done, but it's not that horrible. You can do it! Really. You'll survive it! Good luck!

I couldnt do it either.They requested it prior to my surgery.I have seizures and when they started placing the tube in my nose i had an aura and knew i was going to have a convulsion so we stopped i got my barrings and left.i called my g.i and he said ok. I had the surgery without the manometry however it is a very important part of pre op. I prayed every day & nite asking god please let my esphagus be my soldier and hold me up. i have no swallowing issues as of yet, just a few dumb spasms fro the dumb organ
