On May 25, 2010, the FDA announced that the labeling for Nexium and other proton pump inhibitors was being modified to include information about their association with broken bones. The agency said a half-dozen studies indicated that patients older than 50 faced an increased risk of fractures when the drugs were used between one and 12 years.
