Hi Deb!
Best wishes from Finland!
I Had also that PEH. In my case it was surprise. I had anemia (Hb 85) and GI-doctor found the reason for that: La C esophagitis and quite large hh.
My op was assisted by the robot. When that hospital in Helsinki started using a robot in gastro-op, I was one of the first day patients.
During the op my surgeon noticed this hh is not the normal sliding one, this is the PEH. It was 10 cm in thorax area.
Everything went very well!!!
The op took 2 hours
I stayed in the hospital 2 days
My sickleave was 2 weeks
(what a 2-2-2-story
)
My recovering time was very easy. No complications, no pains, no swallowing or any other problems...nothing negative!
The op was 1,5 years ago. I can do and eat whatever I want. Just only remember to eat slowly and chew carefully.
I had asthma-examinations in last spring-summertime. On July they took a thorax x-ray. I think, if the PEH is now re-herniating, these pictures have shown that. So, everything seems to be well with me.
Deb, hoping all the best to your op. Hopefully you'll have such an easy recovering time as I had...and you can enjoy everyday feeling better and better
With warm hugs
