3 Weeks out and just wondering

Hello everyone!

I have a few questions, I had my surgery 3 weeks ago. Before the surgery, the Bravo done as well as the manometry. The Manomertry revealed some slight constrictions in my throat when I swallowed but it didn't seem to be an issue with the GI doc and he sent me to the surgeon. She made me go for a barium swallow and I had to swallow a marshmallow and do all sorts of positions etc.. This test also came up with some esophageal issues and I was told that my food and drink tends to float in my esophagus. She believed I would be okay and to surgery I went. My first two weeks were horrible. I couldn't swallow anything without pain and the feeling like it was just sitting in my esophagus. I was sent for a dialation and it did seem to help as I am now able to eat some solids. I am seriously worried that this is going to continue and I am wondering if I made the right choice in having this procedure done. I also wonder if anyone has trouble with bowels, such as constipation or diarrhea?

I am just so sad. I have dealt with GERD for 20 plus years and was so excited for relief and at this point I feel defeated.

Has anyone else experienced such issues after their surgery?

Which type of wrap did they do on you?
full wrap?
270?
180?
If they did a full wrap with the type of swallowing issue you described you might some more trouble. If you keep having problems go get a second opinion.

I had what I believe to be a full wrap! Swallowing has gotten easier but only after a dilation. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired that the doctors were unaware of.
I am just simply frustrated and I would have suffered the GERD verses the problems I have faced this last three weeks.

Joy, I see under your name you have several other ailments listed. Do you suffer these or do you moderate a forum for them. I suffer from the fibromyalgia and Hypothyroidism as well as panic and anxiety attacks. I was hoping this surgery would alleviate one problem and give me some comfort in knowing I would no longer suffer from it. But I am not so hopeful anymore.

Hoping there is light at the end of this tunnel.

Those are my illnesses listed under my name.
I've found that people with fibro have panic, anxiety, and depression. Don't know why but those like to tag along with fibro.

Maybe all you needed was a dilation if you're doing better.

Remember you are very early on your recovery. Issues this early are very normal. Remember to chew chew chew and take your time between bites. If things get sore back off on your diet for a couple days. This recovery can take any where from a few months to the better part of a year depending on how fast your body heals.

Thanks for the replies! Maybe I just need some reassurance and support. Not much of that where I am. My hubby has done his best but doesn't understand my frustrations. Tough to be soo hungry and not be able to just eat when I am hungry.
