Hi all.
Thought I'd give an update.
I'm now more than 5 weeks post op and feeling much better!
At 3 weeks I saw my surgeon. I was booked in to see him a week later but they moved it forward due to my concerns about
reflux.
He was not concerned about
my symptoms and stated that if I was still getting food stuck and couldn't burp etc that the wrap was likely to be fine and that I really shouldn't be getting any reflux anymore. Like some of you mentioned on here, he said that the feelings of reflux were likely just to do with the healing process and that it would likely pass. He said until the 3 month mark it would be too early to be concerned. I asked about
alcohol & tomato based foods and he said there shouldn't be an issue with it and to give it a try.
Well 2 weeks later and the reflux symptoms are a LOT less and it's great! I am now able to eat a much more normal diet and as of this week, food is getting stuck a LOT less and I am able to eat nearer to normal portion sizes.
I have tried wine and had no issues (apart from it affecting me a lot earlier and so I only need a little lol!).
I tried a ready meal that was tomato based. I didn't realise it was spicy too. Well I ate it anyway as a test. I had no issues at all. No reflux and no discomfort!
I have tried drinking caffeinated coffee and have realised I'm not ready for that yet (probably the caffeine). Drinking it is fine but a while later I got stomach cramps which lasted hours. This happened on the 2 seperate days I tried coffee.
I have no surgical pain day to day now. It's hard because as a result I forget that I am still healing and do things that soon remind me!
So far, I am really glad I had this surgery and I haven't had a PPI since the day before my Nissen (I was on 40mg Nexium daily).
I have only one thing that concerns me now. It started a week ago. I am getting a severe crushing pain behind my sternum that lasts for about
10-30 minutes at a time. It starts with it feeling like it radiates up my esophagus but I mainly feel the pain under my sternum and through to my back. It's horrific and has happened about
4 times so far. Is this the esophageal spasms I keep reading about
? Anyone else get it and does it ease off in time?
